  1. Found a couple of errors in the DATS.

The game Super Galaxians should have a ROM named "superg", but the DAT says it should be named "guperg".

The DAT says that the v4 ROM for The Last Blade should be 2 MB. It's actually 4 MB. The emulator does have the correct CRC though.

  2. +T+  great emulator was wondering if you were planning on adding any of the updates made by the Logic Sunrise team

    FBAXXX (28/05/2006)

    - [added] now support HDTV resolutions : 720x480,720x576,1280x720p and 1920x1080i

    - [added] rumble function in games (woks with : kof2000, 2001, 2002, fatalfury 2, fatalfury 3, rage of the dragons and snk vs capcom) -> thx to iq_132

    - [added] settings for rumble function

    - [added] possibility to show/hide non-working rams -> thx to Croc + fix

    - [added] splash screen

    - [added] VMM for cps2 games

    - [fixed] input test

    - [fixed] controller config not saved in minimenu

    - [changed] D3d buffer was set to 16bits, more RAM available

    - [changed] rendertarget limited to 640x480, more RAM in higher resolutions

the bold ones are the only ones that make me ask. seems i always pick the non-working roms first LOL  :shootem:

The current problem is that Gogo chose not to release the source code for his latest release. So +T+ can't incorporate Gogo's latest improvements into Pro. There is hope that this situation will change with the next release of FBAXXX.

  3. FBA-XXX Pro supports all the current Samurai Shodown V Special sets.

is that the same as the FBAXXX 26/04 do you know?

Not sure if I have the wrong romsets or the wrong version of FBA XXX to be honest.

Pro is a derivative of the original builds of FBAXXX... which is what you have. The standard FBAXXX builds all use dates as their version numbers. The Pro versions use actual version numbers. The most recent FBAXXX version is 28-05-06 (May 28, 2006) and the most recent Pro build is version 1.17. In both cases ignore the version numbers listed in the DATS.

The main difference between the two is that Pro supports much newer ROM sets and more games overall. The standard builds of FBAXXX use old ROM sets which are alomst never changed.... the advantage being that you almost never have to update your ROM sets when a new version of FBAXXX is released.

Some ROMS are changed with nearly every build of FBAXXX Pro, so it's not for people who don't like or mind updating their ROM sets. Knowledge of how to use Romcenter or ClrMamePro is highly recommended if you use the Pro version. Either that or find complete sets that get posted to places like Usenet.

Also, be aware that the most recent version of FBAXXX can't be found on Xbins. I think the version you have is the version XBins has, but it's an old build. You can get the latest version over at the Logic Sunrise website forums (Google it). The latest version of FBAXXX Pro should be available on Xbins.

As to your problem, if the ROM you have doesn't work in the build of FBAXXX you are using it likely won't work in the latest FBAXXX either since, as I said, the ROM sets are rarely changed. So I would recommend obtaining a copy of FBAXXX Pro and see if it works there. It still may not though since there are lots of version of these ROMS floating around. This is where learning to use Romcenter or ClrMamePro comes in. You can load the DATS provided with the emulators into one of those programs and then have it scan your ROMS (on your PC) and they will tell you what is wrong with your ROMS.

  4. I have a copy of a game that is scratched up just to the point of sometimes it plays, sometimes it dont. I tried to load it to my hardrive last night but apparently its to far scratched to do that. Now I have three unusable icons under the  "Xbox games" tab of my Xbox media center. Does anyone know how to remove these icons?

One sure way is to delete the "MyPrograms##.db" file (where ## = some number). Go to the file browser and select the "Q" drive (Q = the XBMC install directory). I forget the exact location of that since it changed recently, but just check the various folders. Try the "system" folder first.

In the latest versions it's located here: \\UserData\Database

But if you haven't loaded a new version in the past couple of weeks it will be elsewhere.

Anyway, once you find that file in the file explorer highlight it by hitting "Y", then hit the White button to bring up a menu, and then select "Delete". This will force XBMC to rescan and rebuild it's database for the MyPrograms section and should get rid of any "stuck" icons. But make sure you delete the game files for the failed copy first (if you haven't done so already).

  5. I don't know about the "most accurate", but I just use Nero for most conversions. Just select the "Extras" -> "Encode Files" at the top (actual path may vary depending on what version you have). With the old 16-bit CD games I think just about any conversion program will do... these aren't exactly Super Audio CDs we're talking about.

  6. is there any way on earth to get the sfex soul edge or tekken arcade roms working on the xbox? or is there an emulator for the xbox that they work on? thanks in advance

Nope. The Xbox doesnt have the necessary horsepower to do 3D games in MAME since MAME doesn't use hardware acceleration for 3D graphics. You can play SFEX and Tekken on the PSX emulator, but they both might run a bit slow.

  7. Sorry, I just don't think doing that is anymore difficult than what it takes to create 3D worlds with millions of polys, hi-res textures, advanced physics, advanced lighting effects, etc, etc... And this 3D animation that you call "easy" is often accomplished through rather sophisticated motion capture techniques. SNK's games are easy in comparison. Who cares if they have to draw a bunch of hi-res sprites? Draw sprite, copy sprite but move leg a bit, etc... And you act like this is such a huge undertaking all the while seeming to forget they've had YEARS and YEARS to do it. They've been recycling the same stuff over and over. In the mean time other companies have cranked out dozens of different games... not just the same fighter over and over with subtle changes. Get with the program already.

  8. You guys make good points... but perhaps they could help broaded their audience if they modernized their graphics? I'm not saying go to 3D or anything, but make much more detailed 2D graphics. It's not like 2D games are no longer profitable... Capcom does well with their Castlevania 2D games.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that they are going to have to re-draw all their characters at some point anyway. At least if they want to keep having console releases they are going to have to. Nintendo may have given them a pass this generation, but it's not likely to happen next time. Plus, even if a company like Nintendo keep letting them release their lo-res games, their audience will shrink to the point where there will be no more profit to be had. You have to advance at some point or fade into gaming history.

  9. I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly.  First off, the graphical quality standards (which include the difference between 2d and 3d) for the 360 are almost definately different for Live Arcade games vs. retail store games.  It's probably harder to pass a 2D game as a retail release, even if it's 720p.

Secondly, even if 720p is the only thing holding them back, I'd hardly call it "laziness" on SNK's part.  Nevermind that it's MS that demands 720p, converting or completely redoing graphics, especially 2D sprites, for 720p requires a lot of labor that isn't free.  SNK, or any company, has to decide which titles on what platforms to allocate their limited resources to.  If it would take just 2 developers to port assets to 720p, SNK has to decide whether or not it's worth taking those 2 developers off of a game that's nearing completion for release on another system, or budgetting another 2 employees.  What you're calling "laziness" was probably pretty well thought out.  They know more about their profit potential and their system-specific demographics than we do.

No, they're most definitely lazy. You merely need to look at they way they recycle artwork to see that. Even 3D game devs need to make hi-res textures. Why can't SNK? The simple answer is they can, they just don't want to. Hell, just do it the cheap way and simply scale everything up. It won't look as pretty as something initally drawn at a higher res, but it should get the job done.

The bottom line it that SNK and Capcom have been sliding by for years recycling their artwork in their fighters while every other dev on the planet has been moving forward with the times. They really only have a fairly small hardcore audience left and this is largely their own fault for not keeping their games fresh and moving forward like everyone else and it's about time they start.

  10. Live Arcade cannot support SNK games because they cannot hold all the game into memory (seriously, games with like 100-150 MB of stuff). NGBC is still on track for 360 in Japan, just delayed indefinately for some reason.

I didn't mean to imply that they should be Live Arcade games, I just used the Live Arcade games as an example that I don't think MS has any bias against 2D games. But they do insist on 720p... even all the Live Arcade games are 720p.

So it seems to me that the blame for the games not coming to the 360 lies completely on SNK and their laziness. Both them and Capcom love to recycle all their old artwork and make "new" games. Now here we have SNK basically saying, "Meh... we don't feel like making our games 720p, so we'll just release them only for the Wii". Works out for the Wii, but screws all their fans that own 360s.

At least Capcom isn't quite as lazy. At least they are going to be releasing SFII as a Live Arcade game with 720p.

  11. Thanks!

I have a question: I have my correct neogeo romset for 1.14 verision. If I install 1.16, I have to re-dowload romset or not? 1.14 neo geo roms works correctly also in 1.16?

    Thanks

There have been a few changes from 1.14 - 1.16. Most of your 1.14 set will work, but a few will not. Plus, there have been a handful of new sets since 1.14, so you won't have those.

Anyway, this is the exact reason why using the Pro build is not for everyone. With every new build there is ususlly a few ROMS that need to be updated. Gogo's builds are for people who don't want to update their ROMS all the time. But at this point, even more of your 1.14 set would fail to work in Gogo's latest build than would fail to work in Pro 1.16.

I highly recommend you learn to use either ClrMamePro or Romcenter and the included DAT for each. These program allow you to scan and fix your ROMS. You will often need to hunt down new version of ROMS, but once you figure out where to look it's not too bad most of the time.

Of course, you could just wait for a 1.14-1.16 ROM update to appear on one of the major torrent sites... I have a feeling one might be available soon :P

  12. FBAxxx build 17-05-2006

    >> Team XXX released a new version of FBAxxx(info). What's new/fixed:

    * fixed simple1x,scanlines 50 et 75%, simple2x and hq2x filter, the bug was perceptible in tiger heli or other games

    * fixed simple1x -] it is now filtered, no more flickering but can result in some performance loss in cps1 or 2, not perceptible

    * rewrote simple2x -] 1,5% less CPU time used

    * fixed minimenu, it is perfect now

    * fixed vmm, should fix last blade2 and other neogeo roms problems

    * fixed screenshot filtered in simple1x

    * fixed init of YM2151 in finalstarforce

    * corrected lowpass filter (not really corrected, but it is like before now)

    * added green screen and calendar fix for neogeo boot by IQ132

  13. Why isn't this build called Pro?  Is it separate from the 1.1x Pro releases?  I am still getting the ugly green screen on NeoGeo games boot, I thought that was already taken care of in FBA-XXX Pro 1.12?

This is the emulator that Pro is based on. Gogo's FBAXXX generally keeps the same ROM sets for each version. It's great for people who are not interested in trying to collect the latest versions of each ROM... which can be a big headache, believe me. The Pro version by +T+ tries to keep up with all the most recent versions of the ROMS. So as a result you usually have to update some of your ROMS with each new version. Some people, myself included, like to collect the most recent ROMs so we use the Pro version.

  14. Nintendo has turned to Opera as the browser for their upcoming Wii gaming console. "Opera Software today announced that Nintendo's much anticipated new generation game console, Wii, will use the Opera browser. Users of the Wii console will browse the Internet using their consoles. Navigating via the innovative new Wii Remote controller, users can visit Web sites in between gaming sessions."

I came across this news here (at OSNews.com), and the original source is none other than Opera Software ASA. It's become apparent that Nintendo seems to know what they're doing this time around in the console wars.

Well, that would be great if the Wii supported HD. Internet browsing at 480p aint that hot.

  15. Finally, another console manufacturer has realized that sony took the SNES controller design and perfected it.

I do worry about the cable though.

Sorry, but that controller looks horrible. First, having the thumbsticks that close together is bad. Very bad. That is one of the few gripes I do have about the PS controller and Nintendo has now done the same thing and apparently put them closer together. Second, where are the damn handles? Think about the PSP. It has a similar shape. It's OK for a handheld, but I wouldn't want to use it as a console controller. Same applies here. Third, why the hell does the cord come out the side facing the player? When Sega pulled that stunt with the DC I thought it was the most stupid thing I had ever seen on a controller. Now Nintendo pulls the same stunt. WTF? THis controller is basically a conglomeration of the bad ideas for controllers over the past few generations.

  16. FBAxxx build 06-05-2006

    What's new/fixed:

    * fixed 60fps support in PAL50Hz, now the synchronization is perfect, could be useful for later

    * fixed a bug sound in D3d sound (sorry, it was my fault)

    * optimized a little lowpass ( 1/(1[[15) = ]]15), lowpass filter was always executed, corrected that

    * removed neogeoblackscreenfix, it doesn t seem to crash anymore, if you have a black screen with neogeo roms, try to mess with FM interpolation

    * added a minimenu, hope you'll like it, you can desactivate it in the menu option, it can't be desactivated in kiosk mode though

    * added kiosk_mode, if you don't know what it is, you just don't need it
