  1. It started by ffman1985 scripts. Found a way to make them compatible with the normal cps2 versions and not just the phoenix versions. Then he noticed the sound associations didn't work well in cps2, normal since they were never really tested. He says there is a site in the internet with re-arranged versions of the cps2 tracks which sounds very nice with the associations... so they are fixed now, it was much easier than neogeo, their major commands stay the same for all drivers. Then I used the cheats to convert some region bytes switches to some regions which can be changed in raine gui, it allowed to identify region clones, that is clones whose only difference is the region byte itself, and get rid of them since we can now change the region to whatever we want. Notice some games like choko don't have english texts for the non japenese versions, which is not a surprise. Then there was the problem of some long standing graphical glitches because of the dreaded priority masks. So I finally added some emulation for these priority masks, it's quite amazing that the driver worked quite well without them for all this time actually ! (and thanks go to mame for their code, even if I couldn't believe it for very long, they probably spent a long time to find this). Except that : - the list of games now using the console scripts from ffman1985 is longer, see his thread for details. Here it is : hsf2d, sf2cejc, sf2ce, sf2hfj, sf2hf, sf2j, sf2, sf2ad, sfa, sfz2ald, sfz2alj, sfz2al, ssf2ud, ssf2xjd, ssf2xj, xmcotar1d - progear had been broken for 1 year ! It's now fixed. - the ips files can now be bps files when referenced in a .dat file. If you don't know what bps files are, never mind ! - some minor fixes in the multiple files selector for "load ips dat files" - since they never fixed sdl2_image 2.6.x which does not return palettes anymore for 256 colors png, I finally merged the right version of their load_png function to be able to keep the color cycling in the raine dialog on systems with a recent sdl2_image (linux only !) - raine can optionally be compiled using clang, it's mainly useful for debuging - add back button in game controllers to switch between dialog headers and main parts in the gui - Plus some minor stuff... ! That was quite a big update this time : http://raine.1emulation.com/download/latest.html Also both appimage files, 32 bits and 64 bits have been updated to 0.95.5, and there was a small problem in the makefile which forced me to make a 0.95.5b version just for the linux packages.

Most of the changes in this one are for the dos version and were released as 0.96.6 for dos anyway, but : - fixed an amazing bug for pengo which was here since 0.43.2, that was in september 2005 !!! See the thread in the forum if you want details. - galaga will now display a message when loaded if it can't find anything for the explosion sample, you can ignore it, it's for info. - gui fixes : games states, transparency, length of game title + size at bottom of screen. - a new "color theme", it was just because I noticed the dos version had actually 3 color themes, but it was done simply by rotating the colors rgb values, here it's a little more involved.   6. All the motivation of mer-curious brought this, it's mainly for samsho2pe, "samurai shodwon II perfect hack v1.8", thanks to the info found in final burn neo. This is a special hack this time since it adds a new memory rom mapping to the neogeo driver, never seen before in raine. Except that I got rid of index_roms.html finally, this file was here as a quick way to get the roms sizes, but actually using the head http command is more efficient (!), and got a proper fix for this weird green screen bug that mer-curious had in windows for way too long... ! Just a notice about the talk of the other day about android : raine would work almost out of the box on the steam deck, it's an amd cpu, running linux arch, and this is what is supported here by default ! Ok, it's not like using a phone which is already useful for some other uses, but for those interested, it just works. I don't own one so I can't give some step by step instructions on how to install, but it's probably quite easy. It's probably worth mentioning this !

  13. Gunbarich is a new psikyosh game, so 32 bits only, it's a crazy breakout, but with the standard joystick as input. Except that the fixes : - fixed loading roms from internet archive when there are multiple rom names known and the 1st is not the one in internet archive, I noticed this one while doing a new raine install at a friend's... ! This bug was added in 0.96.2 because I wanted to have a visible error when the rom size wasn't found, well it wasn't found for all these games with multiple names ! - fixed a crash in the 32 bits version when trying to use any game using the 6502 cpu, there was a conflict between the 6502 and the sh2 because of an endif and a misplaced break... ! Also I started to add daraku, but this one uses a new type of layer, with line/row scroll too, so it's too much for me for now, the game is loadable, but doesn't work. http://raine.1emulation.com/download/latest.html

  14. Wow, this one was hard ! For those who have read the topic about the sh2 version, this is it, except finally there was no serious bug in the sh2 emulator, it was related to the cache read which is very specific to the saturn and which is useless here and which gave me an error very hard to understand, but finally it's over... So in the end the sh2 additions are for the 32 bits version only, as planned. It might be possible to add the sh2 emulator from kronos for the 64 bits version, but I lacked time and motivation to do that lately. It's still possible it will eventually happen in the future, but not guaranteed, in case you didn't notice there are things going on around here which prevent me from doing what I want lately, and it's very possible that I stop raine soon. It was an incredible adventure anyway, I would never have thought that it would have lasted for so long ! To be more precise about the new stuff : gunbird2, strikers 1945 iii, tetris the grand master 2 and 2+, sol divide, and dragon blaze are added and playable. Dragon Blaze has some serious graphical glitches, I didn't emulate everything for the video emulation in this driver, but I decided it has been long enough since the last version and it's really time to release something now. This version uses "gens sh2", which is the sh2 emulator from Stéphane Dallongeville. The new games have hiscores saving, history, and cheats. Console support for the new sh2 is partial, but it's enough to get all this. Except that the 64 bits version gets what was discussed before summer but never released in a binary form, mostly some text updates from mer-curious, the additions of some samurai shodown clones (samsh5fe & samsh5pf), some surprising fix for the neocd games with a width of 320 (most neocd games have a with of 304 pixels), sgemf region bytes and the region clones are removed for this game, and the console mode script for sgemf from ffman1985, all this has been in git since june, but if you don't compile it's the 1st official binary release. Of course all this is also in the 32 bits version, but the 32 bits version is the only one getting the sh2 stuff since it's in x86 assembly language. http://raine.1emulation.com/download/latest.html linux builds updated, the 32 bits version obliged me to make a 0.96.0a because of a stupid bug in xgettext which refuses to accept an utf8 character in an input file when it should, and the 64 bits build obliged me to make a 0.96.0b because gens_sh2 was not correctly disabled for the 64 bits build in linux ! What a mess, but anyway everything is updated now.

Earlier than what I thought because of some rather big bug found, but I took the opportunity to fix a few more things : - fixed the hiscore saving for tgm2 / tgm2p (a new @delay command in the hiscore.dat for these 2) - fix a crash when starting acrobatm or any game in the nmk driver actually, and fixed an older bug which prevented these games from starting - Finally added the roms info so that the new sh2 games can be downloaded from internet archive http://raine.1emulation.com/download/latest.html

Yeah, ffman1985 was making bigger and bigger scripts which were harder and harder for the old script system, so I tried an lua interface instead, and it made wonders, I can have 0% in Misc with a console script active in linux with the 32 bits version constantly ! The console scripts are available for xmcotar1d, sfz2ald, sfad, af2, af2j, sf2hf, sf2hfj, sf2ce, sf2cejc. For now the old normal version is still available for comparison, but since we couldn't find any bug it will probably be removed next time. The lua version has [lua] at the end of its title. There is a perl converter to convert from the old scripts to the new lua syntax, but it's useful only for those writing scripts ! You can read more details about the crazy work from ffman1985 with these scripts there, and post something for him too : This means you get a new dll, it's included in the raine32 and raine64 zip files for now.   24. I don't have Windows 11 due to Microsoft limitations, so MAMEUI is not officially supported on that OS. However I assume that other people know if it works or not. I've never heard of the black screen problem but assume it's a local issue with your video. Let's see if anyone else knows something.

And finally fixed the text truncation, for info the string was cut at 99 characters long because we still need finite buffers to store strings, it seemed to me that 99 characters was way enough for name (size), but some crazy games like samshope seem to need more... I think this name should be shortened, but I enlarged the buffer to 200 characters to avoid this kind of problem in the future anyway.

  28. The Shared, yeah probably right, I'll see that eventually. SDL2, it's the 2.28.3 in raine for now, 2.28.5 on the site, so these are just minor fixes. You have the list of changes displayed in the release page in github : https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/releases and they also list the changes in their whatsnew file inside the archive if you get it from somewhere else. Nothing major for us, these are just minor bugfix releases. Apparently their main branch is switched to sdl3 so I guess they will probably release that in a not too far future... Hopefully the switch will be less painful for applications... ! For the way too long name of the game : yeah I thought about that when copying and pasting the info from fbneo, I am tempted to just cut some part from it, but I can also remove any restriction on the length in the gui, now that it's fully opengl there is no risk to display off limits... I'll see, minor problem anyway.

I had a quick look at what mame does, and they save this "nvram" (that's how they call the saveram) separately for each game, no option there, and since fbneo is based on mame, they do the same. Oh well, might do the same too, I'll think about it. Well if you can use a mouse reliably in your living room you are more lucky than me, on my side keyboard only !

Ok, you convinced me, but it's not one of these basic clones we had lately, this one adds a new mapping for the rom, it's not mapped as the others, so I'll need to look into it in more detail... Congratulations for the motivation though ! Ok, it was not so complex finally, the neogeo system is full of hacks, the mapping of the code rom is : from 0 to 0xfffff normal basic mapping for 0x100000 bytes then if the size is > 0x100000 you get something more 0x200000 to 0x2fffff rom bank and then if there is a write in the 16 last bytes of this region (which is rom so the writes are supposed to be ignored), then it's supposed to be a bankswitch based on the byte written to be able to access any address > 0x200000 This one uses the mapping at 0x200000 but not the bankswitch and its size is > 0x200000 it adds a new area which was unused so far : 0x900000 - 0x9fffff code rom starting at 0x200000 ! I tested it, it seems to work, assuming the code doesn't try to access any address beyond the end of its rom it should be ok, it seems good for the small test I did. I'll post a binary later, you won it. You should take a look at the git log for adding this rom, it's not so hard to do, except here I added the mapping for 0x900000 plus a new define rom ROM_END instead of copying lines all the time... So that you'll be able to add your own clones later !

  32. ... and some last words about this bug : actually the reason why I couldn't reproduce it is simply because in my saved settings the profiler display is almost always enabled (the 3rd one, the one with % numbers), that's the f11 key, and this key would have fixed the green screen bug too if you had used it because by default it uses opengl text, and so it calls glColor to set the color of the text to white, this time it's normal behavior since the text is monochrome, the non standard behavior is for color pixels of the game bitmap. It works also for the f1 key (reset) because you get some texts at the bottom of the screen to tell about the cpu(s) being reseted, and so it calls glColor too... So if you had had a simple profile display enabled in your settings you would probably never have seen this bug, but yeah most of the time you install to a new dir so it's back to default settings all the time... Everything is solved !

  33. You could just have left this all bug to rest, you know ? Anyway to take a last look at it : the line is actually drawn by SDL2_gfx which was merged into raine, but they never fixed this part of the code anyway. Their line code uses this to set the color : result |= SDL_SetRenderDrawBlendMode(renderer, (a == 255) ? SDL_BLENDMODE_NONE : SDL_BLENDMODE_BLEND); result |= SDL_SetRenderDrawColor(renderer, r, g, b, a); the doc from sdl says that this function affects only lines/rects (and FillRects) and points. Well it also clearly affects the opengl function to blit some pixels to the screen which is used by raine. The reason why it's only in windows is probably because in windows we are forced to use the opengl driver for video where in linux I leave the generic one. Anyway a proper fix would simply be to get the current BlendMode and the current draw color before drawing the line, and restoring it when it's done, it should be done at the SDL2_gfx level normally, but I just checked and this function was never updated ! (it would take only 2 lines to do that !). On the other hand it would probably make programs using lots of lines slower, so it might be better do do otherwise like us here. Oh well at least the current workaround works well... No idea why I wasn't able to do it in my previous install, might have gone too fast, actually I think you need to have the current selection of the dialog over something containing one of these green boxes when you close the dialog so that the BlendMode stays.

  39. It's been a major rehaul actually. But it was well worth the effort! Now the website is much easier to browse and has new icons and pieces of information that make it clearer. Samsh5fe is the ultimate final version of samsho 5 special (NGM/NGH 272 like samsho5sp, which makes sense). samsh5pf....it's not perfect, it's Samurai Spirits V/Zero Special "Final Edition" or "Location test" version (extracted from samsho neogeocollection) and modified by fans. "Real" Perfect is a patchs (titles screen, overkills, english language for story mode, etc) set applied on the fly in memory, on the original 2004 location test version, and available only on PC(steam/epic/..)/exa-arcade. Note that the NGM 273 is a pure invention for the samsh5pf romhack. This perfect roms in finalburn is a simple attempt to re-create Perfect (and it's mostly just the title screens and story mode text translations, but it lacks many iterations: modified fatality etc.), so this roms is just a classic hack. The NCI version is an absurdity, as it's the final edition BUT in a box with Perfect covers... adding extreme confusion to the situation (plus a sound roms is erroneous in their cartridge version, but corrected in the latest FBN version). In resume, Perfect it's the loc test rom which was used as based to make samsho5 perfect on EPIC/STEAM/EXA-Arcade, and the available version in FBN is a simple hack. Note that the exa version is slightly different from the PC version, and has been more reworked, notably to recover the original fatality of the special mvs or better translation of English texts in story mode, but once again, this is memory patching done via an official emulator called Moo . No official Perfect v1 (epic/etc) or Perfect v2 (EXA) roms are available. Only hacks may exist, and none are identical for the moment. (sorry for my english)

Oh finally for perfect the roms look mostly different so it's probably a worthy clone after all : most sprites are in common (except the 2 last roms), the sound is identical to what's used by fe (for the samples but not for the z80 code !), except that the 68k & z80 have totally different roms, plus the text layer has a different rom too. So it really doesn't look like a tiny clone, now you'll tell me if it's worth playing it ! Neogeo id : $273, not used until now, that's why it isn't recognized by unibios for the cheats. Added to git too (samsh5pf).

  43. Well thanks for the info. I am afraid I won't be able to tell much about the interesting points of this rom, but I can at least tell after looking that for fe (final edition) it's an entirely new game, no rom is in common with any other neogeo game contrary to most clones usually. And it's not encrypted, logical if it was made by the community. For the cheats, unibios recognizes the game because it has exactly the same rom id as samsh5sp (special edition), that is $272. The ram usage might be the same, but the rom is very probably different, anyway there are probably only ram cheats in unibios because it deals with real roms most of the time so they are really read only for it. And by the way fbneo has some source on github too, and it's quite different from mame source actually, which is a surprise because originally it was made for afterburner before it was integrated to mame, and it was something like a showcase, just to demonstrate the game worked well. So I assumed it was based on mame source, I was wrong apparently ! But it's very readable, and this part is easy to understand since there is no crazy encryption like what the special edition has. It seems to be Japan only, it ignores the region. I'll check this perfect thing later, it sounds less interesting, this one seems to be just a hack on top of this final edition. But if it has no cheats in unibios it means they changed the id of the rom, so maybe there are some heavy changes there too... Anyway samsh5fe is added in git.

  46. After thinking, we could add a shortcut for the joystick to switch to the top entries where the most recent commands are, with the keyboard it's the tab key. Any proposal for the default button to use on the joystick ? (probably select or start) edit : it's done, with the back button, which is select on a playstation controller.

  47. And you got a 0.95.4b, a bug specific to windows and which doesn't happen all the time displayed very weird script error messages. And the lua label was missing for the lua console script for sf2, that's all so it's sill 0.95.4, just an update.

Update for X-men Children of Atom (Phoenix Edition, xmcotar1d.zip): - allows pressing start button to skip opening. - a new menu screen with sound effects which look like the ss/ps version. - option (test menu) is forced to show English regardless of region, and return to menu screen when leaving. - the auto-block selction is fixed (it was my fault when I change the way of chosing the background in the old version.) - add the ability to memorize previous fight characters in vs & training mode. If you play as boss, it will load the characters where you press down button to select the boss. This script already included in the new version of Raine (0.95.4). Thank you Tux for enhacing the script system, it uses much less cpu resource now (obvious in the new type of menu screen in my console mode scripts). And, I can make more complex script i the future.
