Hello

Arcade Timelines, based on the work of MAME and Gaming History's history.xml has been released!

What is Arcade Timelines?

Arcade Timelines' goal is to put each arcade cabinet in MAME (parent machines only) on a timeline, one for each decade.
Arcade cabinets are drawn as childs of their manufacturer span, using a dedicated color.
There is also an Arcade Systems timeline, showing all arcade systems present in MAME, across all decades.

It's possible to apply filters to the timeline and only show the arcade cabinets you want. There is also the option to show only the arcade cabinets of a certain manufacturer span. You can do this by SHIFT-clicking a span or press and hold a span for about half a second on touchscreen devices (do the same thing again to clear the focus).

For first time users, it's recommended to read the explanation after clicking the "?" button on the website.

For people who want to contribute to Gaming History, click the "contribute" link in the game description on Arcade Timelines.

Just in case people haven't come across these yet, or don't want to patch their sets and emulator, you can use these cheats in MAME to play as secret characters etc. etc. All you have to do is copy and paste the following lines of text into a cheat.dat file in your MAME folder. Visual Pinball/PinMAME Tutorial

Obviously I just started using this myself, but having used ALOT of emulators I didn't find it hard. (However I'm not good at teaching, but here goes anyway)

Step 1: Download Visual Pinball here and PinMAME here.

Step 2: Run the installation for Visual Pinball and install it wherever you please.

Step 3: Unpack PinMAME to the same folder you installed Visual Pinball to.

Step 4: Run setup.exe for PinMAME and configure everything to your liking (Just remember where you're gonna put things afterwards)

Step 5: Download a table and it's corresponding roms from here. Unzip the table into a folder you have assigned for Visual Pinball Tables (Usually the "Tables" folder where you installed VP) and leave the roms zipped in the folder you told PinMAME to use for roms.

Step 6: Download the needed VBS Scripts from here (It's at the top of the page) and unpack ALL of them where you just unpacked your table to.

Step 7: Open Visual Pinball, go to FILE > OPEN and select the table you want. (Don't forget to set your options in PREFERENCES regarding video and keys!)

Step 8: Click on the big PLAY button to the left in the pane, or select TABLE > PLAY from the dropdown menu.

There! You should be playing Pinball games on your PC in no time!

Problem running some games on Daphne

So, I have issues with 3 games on Daphne. All load, but

Thayer's Quest

When the thing starts up and booting it shows weird things on screen like communication link failed. And it doesn't respond to keyboard commands so I basically can't insert coins or do anything.

GP Wolrd

Has lots of errors (including no sound) and eventually crashes

Cliffhanger

Simply shows a weird screen of 0s and blinking 1s

Why Use KIxxx1.2 Instead Of U64 3.11?

-No Random crashes
-Updated from DX7 to DX9
-Xinput support
-Back and down are no longer mapped to the same button
-No more 144P grade video quality

USE

Put KIxxx1.2 where you like
Grab the ROMs from KIxxx1.2 XBOX
Run KIxxx1.2
Click on GameSet and point it to your ROMs
Click on settings and choose your Rez and fullscreen or windowed
Click Run and beat the snot out of Gargos

FAQ

Q Why is KI running like its on crack?
A HLE is Disabled. Make sure NO HLE is unchecked

Q I get a weird staticy humming sound
A Same as above. Make sure NO HLE is unchecked

Q When I hit run it just freezes and crashes
A You didnt set the proper directories for the games

Q When I switch resolutions it crashes
A Delete KI/KI2.dat and reboot

Q I already mapped my controller but when switching games it doesnt work
A Delete KI/KI2.dat and reboot

Q Will this work with 3rd party 360 or old Direct Input controllers?
A Yes. This was tested using Logitech Dual Action, M$ 360, Rock Candy and Afterglow 360 controllers

A You dont have the Xinput driver. Download and install DirectX9

Q Why do a PC version when M$ is doing an official release?
A Because mine is better:) No micro scams, better accuracy, and most important this is the original arcade not some whored up version

Q Where do I get the proper game images?
A From KIxxx1.2RC for XBOX

Q Do the cheats work?
A Yes all cheats and moves listed in KIxxx1.2RC XBOX work for the PC version

Q Why isnt the PC version interface as cool as the XBOX version?
A Because porting over the interface is a ton of work

Q Why does this use DX9 and not 11 or 12?
A Because DX9 will work for almost everybody. All GPUs have legacy support for DX9 (currently)

Q Why is this version listed as Release Candidate 2?
A Because I dont consider it a full release until Im 100% done updating it and port over the XBOX interface

Q Why did you use U64 3.05 src when 3.11 was the newest version
A 3 reasons. 1 the 3.11 src is unavailable. 2 KIxxx on XBOX is built off the 3.05 src. 3 RCP broke 3.11. 3.11 was a step back not a step forward

Hi guys I've just loaded coinops7 on my Xbox and found run and gun still doesn't work as I upgraded from Ignite. Is there anyway to make it work as I'm fixated lol

Hello all,

I recently setup my friend's newly TSoP'ed Xbox with Coinops. He is new to the modded Xbox scene and instantly feel in love with seeing all the arcade classics. One omission I was instantly aware of was Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder. It is my understanding it wasn't playable on the Xbox MAME and early Coin OPs. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is playable on Coin OPs 4-7 or any other emulator? I'm lucky enough to have a Barcade not to far from where I work that has the cabinet but would love to add it to my Xbox if at all possible.

Hi all

Trying to find that dat suitable for:

Samurai shodown 5 special (mvs version, fully decrypted)

But there are so many dats for this game and I am not sure wich one to look for.. since some seems to be for the censored aes version etc..

I just want the dat for the fully decrypted C,V,S,M,P set (P files never encrypted?)

It should be the version with 4 V files and 128k S and M files..

Anyone who could paste this dat and if needed the decryption patches / grabbers (since the links in the ultimate SSVS thread are dead ; (...)?

Metal Slug 2 Extra Shot Select?

Just wondering if there's a .dat file [or if the text can simply be put in a reply] for Metal Slug 2, that will allow me to pick what weapon I have.

In MS1, you can pick between the hand gun, heavy machine gun, flame shot, shotgun, and rocket launcher.

I saw something for MS3, with the selecting of the weapons, but haven't been able to find it for MS2? Just wondering if anyone has/knows.

BTW, I'm using winkawaks.
