Gentlemen,

Just for curiosity...

Maybe someone has the technical skill t answer my question:

Why classic Double Dragon games (1 & 2) does not run correctly on Mame?

Is it a fault of Mame or the games never were dumped correctly?

I wonder how nice could be to have a single emulator for these two games

to make them running just like the real arcade.

The best beat'em up games ever!

Best regards,

Cospefogo.

play double dragon 1 and 2 on the earlier versions of mame ie mamex-b6 or mameox0.72.

there is some slowdown with the mameox0.84 core i know, but i still think they are very playable on mamedox and mameox128plus.

it is the slowdown you are speaking about right?

edit/the slight slowdown at times never put me off,but each to their own.

I do remember at one time I had problems with Double Dragon running very slow and having to use frameskip to compensate.

I just tried Double Dragon out for myself in Mame32 FX 0.120 and it plays fine. Try Mame32/Plus/FX or even Fastmame.

If it's due to low specs you could try -nojoy or disabling the sound to improve framerate.

EDIT : I missed that this was Xbox related. Yep, runs fine in Mamedox.

Hey guys,

The only MAME I have on my Xbox is the MAMEoX 128! Plus (latest version)

and both Double Dragons run very slow.

On Double Dragon 2 I was able to play deeper into the game,

but Double Dragon 1 is a pain sometimes due to the HEAVY SLOWDOWN.

And I really don't dare to turn the music OFF because the

BGM and sound efx of Double Dragon are A MUST!

I love them.

Anyway, maybe I should try to run both games on a older MAME for

Xbox to see what happens - but the problem is - As far as I know,

all Mames use the same SAVE FOLDER in the TDATA and UDATA,

right? The directory 4D414D45 (M A M E)...

Platinum uses 4D414D46 (M A M F)

Few time ago I was very excited to try PLATINUM V2 and later ARCADES,

but I did notice a LOT of choppy VSYNC problems on many games

who run PERFECT on MAMEoX 128. I even posted a topic about

it but nobody paid attention, so I gave it up.

Anyway guys,

Thank you for you replies!

Cospefogo.

Guys!

MAMEox0.72 works unbelievable nice with both Double Dragons!

Oh my God!

But still remains the question - How to have both emulators

(Mameox0.72 + MAMEoX128) if they use the SAME save folders?

4D414D45!

Is there a way to hack/hex-edit MAMEoX0.72 forcing

it to save in another location, like for example 4D414D45072

Regards,

Cospefogo.

I own real hardware btw, and slowdown is an issue present on the real hardware with more than 2 enemies onscreen at a time. It's quite noticeable.

Slowdown otherwise isn't however, and in MAME is a core issue beyond 0.87. Use an emulator that utilizes any core as old/older than that and you should be fine.

That's a point, good to know.. have the same speed problem with xain sleena (aka soldier of light) from tecmo, i suppose the hardware was quite the same.

It would be great to have a recent mame compiled using a older core!

Is it - perhaps - "feasible"?

Because the Mame 0.72b does not permit - for example - custom SKINS.

I would love to have a MAME 072 with custom skin for my Double Dragons!

Cheers,

Cospefogo.
