Ok I was sitting and thinking what classic games I wanted to download, then I thought to myself "hmm I want to play some old PC DOS stuff". Now we all know that XP doesn't do DOS and it sucks in Win 2000 and ME.
So I had a great idea that someone could emulate an old PC system (soundcard, graphics card, mouse, drivers, 386/486/pentium 1 architecture) and put it all in an emulator for our spankin fast new computers. Then I did some searching and found out it had been done already w00t.

Now I haven't tested any of these but I will probably tomorrow. If anyone has used them before, wants to try them or knows anything about them then please give some feedback. They might all suck but it's worth a try. Cheers

I seriously don't get whats up with people saying DOS programs don't work in XP.
There isn't a thing I can't run in DOS on here. (At least that I've encountered)

i couldn´t play games like piratesgold and beneath a steel sky always failed ay a certain part besides some games run way too fast on new pc´s so you need some sort of emu

Ah you must be talking really really really OLD dos games for speed issues then.
That I can see, but exactly what was ever good in dos that was THAT old?
I can play Doom on here just fine, anything older than that for PC dos, I don't even care to see. Cause before that, PC's sucked.......and Atari ruled.

Actually, the older the DOS game, the better it runs in XP. Newer DOS games don't have a chance

eg Command & Conquer, Tie Fighter, The Secret of Monkey Island, System Shock, Ultima VII, Doom, Elite:Final Frontier, Warcraft 2 etc

Other stuff can run when you tweak the settings (eg Sam & Max works when you play it without sound). I just think it is a pain in the ass having to change screen resolutions, use slow down utils, change config.nt (config.sys, my old friend hehe) files etc just to make some of these classics run. I want an emulator to make it all quick and easy for me Oh well, maybe it's only me who wants to play these games again

I have Command & Conquer, Doom and Warcraft 2 on here right now. They run fine.
The only thing I have problems running is anything utilizing DOS4GW.EXE (Such as Nesticle. But I canned that extremely innacurate emu long ago anyway)
I've tried some really old dos games that I've found lying around on CD's here (You know like PC gamer discs where they give you some super old game in its full version), and they run way too fast, unless you change the way it utilizes memory.

Ah well. It was just a thought. Back to the drawing board
