U know,SNES has ZSNES & SNES9x,Genesis has Gens & Kega, but what are the NES emu equivalents of those? Ive hopped around many NES emus in the past (the one im currently using is nnesterj but it hasnt been updated in a while... a long while). Im just asking what is the NES emulator that has the best features and emulates the NES the best cuz ive heard a lot of different responses elsewhere and i want to know for sure wich is THE best so thats why i came here

. Any help would be appreciated,i hope i can get a quick response if possible. As for me im going to bed.....

VirtuaNES.
I use NESticle as well, but let's face it, it's somewhat deficient (still does the job to a degree though) and way old....NESticle stays in my collection for nostalgia's sake.

Both VirtuaNES and FCE Ultra are good emulators, I just forgot to put that in there

It boils down to a matter of taste, really.

I much prefer RockNESx over those others, but all are very accurate emulators.
My preference is due to the graphics options and rom browser.
Nesticle although, is a very INaccurate emulator. Good for playing roms on a 486, but as far as accurate emulation goes, it's VERY inaccurate.

Very true. But it was one of the first working NES emulators. It should get a proper funeral at some point.

I got to hand it to the developers....A nutsack was a pretty novel idea for an icon.

The best emulator to me is JNes. All the other emulators that i've downloaded before either have crappy Menus or it crashed upon startup. Jness has a simple interface and is very easy to use. The only problem is that there are some games with special mappers that Jnes doesn't support, and you can't run those games. It really doesn't matter anyways, because they either suck or no one would want to play those games in the first place. Besides that, Jnes can play a whole !^@*load of games and its great in speed.

jnes runs fine with me

I use NESTopia myself & it's my NES emu of choice

Every game I played is emulated 100% accurately and as far as I know it supports all the mappers. It also perfectly emulates the Famicom Disk System. Give it a try.

I've always just used it, and should probably get one of the emulators listed in this thread.

NESticle was somewhat deficient and many emulators have gone past it. However, I still use it for nostalgia's sake.

"NESticle is somewhat deficient"
Says a friend of mine. Sure, I still use it occasionally for nostalgia's sake, but let's face it, it's horribly inaccurate and outdated.
Even so, it's part of the emulation history, by none other than the Bloodlust team.

As an NES emulator author, I recommend Nestopia, it runs on very slow machines at 100% speed and 100% accuracy on all the games it supports. There's usually no game you can throw at Nestopia and it won't work.

Wow, I haven't been on 1Emu in ages (6+months), and this thread is STILL on the first page!!!!
So guys, any updates on the NES emu rankings? I've been using NNNesterJ but it had this really nasty bug that froze my PC coming out of fullscreen, and I promptly chucked it. So once again I am without an NES emu. Its sad too, because from what I remember NNNesterJ was the only NES emu that IMO properly played the music of the VRC7 game Lagrange Point. Nestopia doesn't play the music at all.

well first of all, any game that ive had trouble with on any other emulator has always worked fine on FCEUltra, Secondly, Even really screwed up homebrew games and weird hacks of games run smoothly on FCE Ultra. Not only that but its fully compatible with all my joystiqs and controll doodads. It also has excellent sound emulation and excellent speed. Also, Its never currupted a savestate on me. (I admit this really doesn't happen too much, ive only had it happen 2 or 3 times on another emu, forget which one, but still, it would suck quite a lot to lose a savestate on the last level)
As for the savestate compatibility, no idea, every savestate ive downloaded worked fine with it. But i rarely download them.
Does it come in a window? If im understanding you correctly, Yes.
SeaWolf

I'm not worried about dl'ing savestates, just transfering my own.
Thanks for the info though, I'll check it out.
