Full Version: Get Your Gamecube To Play Imports

Lets face it, Bootdiscs are annoying, and you dont want to use a freeloader/action replay to boot every import every time

so modify!!

http://cube.ign.com/articles/099/099712p1.html

Im thinking about adding the switch to mine!!
GameCop
Wow that is awesome. If you make a switch and sell it on eBay, you'd make a ton of money. biggrin.gif
Wizard
Problem is you can only play NTSC and J-NTSC games, none of the PAL ones.

Better links;

Taking apart the cube; http://www.gamesx.com/misctech/gamecube.htm

Modding a switch; http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/ngcmod.htm

This too; http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=2334

These are much better then IGN's.
PokeParadox
yeah it also doesn't help PAL gamers... >.>
Shibathedog
hmm...ah well

10 bucks for the Freeloader isnt that bad, but thats only Japnese/USA

I suppose youll have to buy the Gamecube Action Replay if you wanna play PAL games then
BobRedthorp
I take it there is no US version of the freeloader to play PAL imports?

Mind you, why would you want to play PAL games when they are released in the states first? I have the opposite problem living in the UK, lol
PokeParadox
ocassionally Ninty do release in the UK first (well Europe) e.g. Mario Kart DD... although it was by about 3 days or something... :S I'm sorry but that does not let NTSC gamers feel our pain! tongue.gif

Anyone remember 1080 on N64?... Held back a YEAR for PAL gamers because it took to long to release it that "snowboarding season" was over... right.... >.>

Anyway I was meaning a mod to play PAL/NTSC since I'm a PAL gamer.

No... most people in the US don't even have PAL capability on their TVs from what I can gather from a friend...

Nope, we don't have TV's that run at 60HZ. And its useless to play pal games on a TV here unless you have a VGA Box or a video card that as Video-In.
BobRedthorp
The problem with PAL gamers is that we have to wait for the game to be made into other European languages, which is a pain in the arse as it would be so easy to just convert the US version to PAL, but I guess that would only help us Brits, laugh.gif

I find that games look better graphically at 50Hz but at 60Hz you get a hugely smoother gameplay with no black boarder but the scanlines/picture can sometime look stretched, but I guess in the long run, 60Hz allways wins laugh.gif
kaioshade
which is why you only play games that are 480p.

if only the ps2 had progressive scanning capabilities. then i would be a very happy gamer.
BobRedthorp
it does, the getaway has options for 60Hz and Progressive Scan!
Shibathedog
yeah, some of the games do, but not DVDs.

And that might be only for you, I have The Getaway and i dont remember that option being there

BTW, my TVs work with PAL and NTSC format, its sweet biggrin.gif

I find that TVs made 1993, 1996, and 1998, have the best compatibility (just something i noticed, its weird, it goes for my friends TVs too)

It depends on the games. The system is self is able too, you just need the games to enable it.

Yeah, its the same here for 60Hz, its mainly modern TV's which only support it, which I guess is the point your getting accross with 50Hz on your TV's.
Capcom
cool. biggrin.gif
