Mee the qualification before burning an ISO-
1. Burning options may be different varies its nero version..so the update version might work..I use nero ver Nero 5.5.8.0.
2. ISO should work according to the model: DC manufactured BEFORE november 2000.
The following program you need is " WinRAR (extraction program) and the burning software "Nero Burning". '
Most ISO you download will mainly on ".rar format" (but if ISO is on ".cdi" format then i will give you a converter)
First of all, unpack the ISO using WinRAR, once its extracted, you will get a bigger file with the format ".nrg "(aka image file).
Once you did that !! Click the image(.nrg), it should direct you to the burning process option or you could just open nero..File..."burn image". Now after your on the Burning option menu..
A option screen comes up with 3 tabs:
-The first tab shows the tracks (usually 2 tracks, 1 mb audio track and an iso9660 Mode2/XA track).
-The second tab (Misc), nothing display whem i view it.
-The third tab (Burn) shows a couple of actions (leave them all checked).
Go to " tap " 3 and you should see the option " Write Speed ", now you can set the amount of speed you like, but i recommend " 4" for safety (most ISO can be burned at a maximum amount of speed but not oftenly accurate). Once you done that..
The option Write method must "Disc-At-Once" (other options may or may not..but is best if you follow what i told !! )..
Now you can chose the amount of copies you would like to burn;) (small suggestion..burn extra for a friend or secondary backup but its unneccessary )
Then click " BURN ":D once
Once the burning is complete " WHA LA !! " instint DC games:D
and.............................enjoy

Great stuff Magnis. I was going to post this but you saved me the job
To add to that, sometimes your images will come in the.cdi format, which are to be used with Discjuggler. You can get it at
www.padus.com
Open DiscJuggler, click file, then new. Select Burn CD and DVD images. Where it says source, select the.cdi file you want to burn and load it up. Click the advanced tab and set the following options:
Mode: Mode 1/DVD
Block: 2352
Offset: 0 bytes
TOC: CD-DA
Everything else should be left as it is. After that, simply select the burning speed (slow is better because there is much less chance of error) and burn!.
Personally I prefer using Nero like Magnis posted. If you want to convert your discjuggler.cdi images to Nero.nrg images, then use a great little program called Cdi2nero which you can get at
http://cdirip.freeyellow.com/down_cdi.html. Then you should just follow the rest of Magnis' tutorial above.

Well all the US games that are converted to ISO does not require a bootdisc thus they are bootable after its burned !! IF you were to burn import ISO such as " GodZilla Generation " then you needed it !! btw: if you need the bootdisc(the same way you burn done to an ISO > Disc ), just PM me and I send it via Messenger or email perhaps:happy:

If you buy a PAL DC then it doesn't matter when it was manufactured as ISOs homebrew etc will all work.
But if you still want to know the manufactured date then it's on a sticker on the bottom of the DC.

I have a very bad and annoying problem and really it's a releaf to meet here poeple who knows a lot about the subject.
Well, i have nero6 and everytime ehen i try to burn a nrg image (tried on different game images) iget the error message "unable to write on the right position using this recorder", the recorder i'm using is good and does support all what in need and more, besides, i don't have any problem with burning CDI images using the same recorder.
Can anyone help me with that?
Thanks.

another problem maybe it will be very important alia for the first question. When i open the nrg image (clicking on it) i get a dialog box and the bar the bottum of nero6 indicates a file less than 1 MB while the file has more than 700MB.

i'm having the same problem he stated, nero gives the same error messages..
also, when i get alcohol 120 to burn anything the DC *might* recognize, i have to burn at 4x, and raw DAO. and all the DC does is spin the cd, acting like it's about to load it...
my DC was made in 99, so it should load everything, but loads nothing.

does anyone know where to download the iso's? i cant find them anywhere. thanks
Shibathedog
Dec 3 2003, 07:59 PM
ok i just have to get this out its driving me crazy
you will never find a working DC game in ISO format, if you do its either fake or a VERY rare instance
ISO isnt detailed and complex enough to get all the data
you will find them mostly in...
CDI
NRG
BIN
BIN/CUE
and sometimes CCD
Alchohol 120% burns all of those and more so use that for your DC game burning....
some games ARE SUPPOSED to be over 700MB but they burn anyway using a method called Overburning where it squezzes the data in the end of the CD but ignoring the set tracks in the CD and burning the data closer together, this would normally cause the disk to be unreadable, like with a PSX game it wouldnt work in a PSX, but since the Dreamcast can read GD roms which are a higher density (the tracks are closer together, just like overburning) then it can read overburned discs (GD-ROMS ARE NOT OVERBURNED DISCS, they where pressed at the factory closer together in ALL areas, its like a DVD but less memory, also just in case you are wondering what that inner circle on all your GD-ROMS is, its the low density track, just like a normal CD, that why when you put it in a CD player it reads that and plays the "Warning, This disc is for use only in Sega Dreamcast" message, the low density area holds 20MB the high density area holds 1GB, the low density area WAS modified for some games that wanted to use regular CD format audio in the game, but this was very rare.
as for images
Check Romster Hub in DC...
romsterhub.ath.cx
and classic Sega Hub
classicsega.homeunix.com
Also you can find many UNNOFICIAL games and apps and emulators here....
homebrew.dcemulation.com
and here...
http://www.dcemulation.com/If your game will not boot try resetting the internal memory (check gamesages.com for the code, go to the Dreamcast section and look for Dreamcast Console and its in there)
Also its not neccesarily the year its the model number, all DC games should be able to boot CD-R Games unless it is one certain model
The only one that doesnt work says HKT-3030 on the bottom and there is a note on the bottom about it being recertified back to factory standards by Sega, these where apparently repaird or something right before the dreamcast died *sniffle* and Sega decided to update the Firmware on them so no one could boot the CD-R games, also things like Gameshark would not work in these (in very rare cases they did) and even certain games wouldnt, one that i have experianced first hand when hooking my friends up with Dreamcasts is Grandia 2.
AVOID GETTING THAT MODEL DREAMCAST AT ALL COSTS, i cant beleive im saying this but that is an evil dreamcast!!! Sell it at gamestop and come back later (so its a different guy working the shift hehe) and buy a new one, making sure to check the model number, if its the same one, just say...uhh oops changed my mind...
anyway i dought any of you even read all that but read it!!! we must learn everything about teh dreamcast, i have only skimmed my knowledge of the Dreamcast barely right there and i didnt feel like annoying you all by telling you more interesting yet irrelevent facts. anyway im out i hope i helped in some way or another!

Dec 6 2003, 08:34 PM
no no i dont think you even read my last post
no PC drive can read GD-ROMS!!!! They are a differnt format disc!!! You need to get a DC and a Coders cable to link to your PC THEN you can use the DC as a drive and read the GD
Then you have to use overburning to burn the GD image to a CD-R

In case anyones wondering nero 6 doesnt work very well when it comes to burning iso's, try nero 5.5

Dec 10 2003, 02:35 AM
yeah Nero 6 is crap, the only thing they improved on was VCD Burning which isnt much better...
i say get the newest 5.5 and for everything nero doesnt support the latest Alchohol 120% and for VCDs...well theres a bunch of good ones out there

you can probably get it off of kazaa, and not evey thing off of kazaa is a virus, well 1/4 isnt one. and i was wondering if burning dc iso or making bootleg copies was the same and making PSX iso or bootleg copies? here's a good sit to learn how to burn iso's

How do you convert real dc games in isos? Or can you just copy the regular game like you would a music cd?
Shibathedog
Dec 27 2003, 04:42 AM
well you can use a Coders cable to link your DC to your PC, download special drivers that lets you use the DC as a Drive, and rip them that way, but its so complicated its not even worth it
just dont copy originals, download them and burn

Does it matter what version of the web browser i use to reset my internal memory? Does i burn the web browser like a regualr iso(*.nrg or whatever)? and do i need utopia or something to play import bootlegs or just a gameshark?
Shibathedog
Dec 28 2003, 10:09 PM
doesnt matter what version of the browser you use, or so ive heard, ive only tested 2.0 and 2.6
The format your image is in doesnt matter, once you burn a game its in standard Dreamcast format (well...except for not being on a GD-ROM) thats just the format it was ripped in
If the game isnt self boot you should use DC_HAKKAR if that boot disc doesnt work try Utopia Boot Disc (I use version 1.3) try to avoid getting non self boot games as they are a pain in the ass

To boot Imports you have to use DC-IE, its on this forum somewhere and gameshark/action replay works SOMETIMES too but DC-IE works much better, sometimes there are cracks availible for games so imports will work on any dreamcast, try www.dccopyworld.com
i know you can mix these discs around and try and boot imports with Utopia boot disc and stuff but i have the best luck doing it this way

Edit - This is so annoying x_x I've burnt things correctly here but nothing wants to work

I'm trying to burn Guilty Gear X and it's just not having it, I've burnt it through the discjuggler process and tried it out but it just stays on the dreamcast screen, I also tried burning a bootdisk but that never worked at all.
Cominus
Jan 3 2004, 06:13 PM
Yeah boot disk dont work for me either, what you want to do is try to get auto boot iso or self boot iso(samething) i got GGX off of shreaza and it worked great, make sure you DC was made before november 2000(check on the bottom) well umm..hmm...

ok this happend with a DC i had
You need to clean the laser lense, use one of those CD cleaners (the audio CD things with bristles in them) like 50 times then use Q-Tips (those ear cleaning things lol) I had a Dreamcast (Like Dreamcast number 8 i think) and it was SOOOO Dirty (it was from EB games, what do you expect? Go to Gamestop damn you) I had to do this as well as use my cleaning guide
Also you may have to realign your GD-ROM drive (not as a pain in the ass as it sounds, its really easy)

some games are just stupid and take like 9 tryes to boot, theres like 1000 factors that effect this and i dont feel like listing them right now
Burn in RAW DAO, with OVERBURNING on MODE 2
if it doesnt work then try a bootdisc, if it still doesnt work you either did it wrong or the image was made wrong (make sure there is a 6 second audio track then data)

WTF man, my burner is F#%@ing wierd, i used to burn "track at once" and only some games woule work, ok then i switched to "disc at once" and a bunch of games started working(horay!) so now i burned like 3 games and they didnt work, so i was like hm..they all went to that audio player, so i decided to bur "track at once" and i got one of those S.O.Bs to work. Normally that wouldnt bother me but i only got like 7 cd-rs left and no money to buy more so i want to save them for good games..ahh....
Shibathedog
Feb 28 2004, 09:18 PM
no, thats not your burner, thats because most people prefer DAO than TAO so all the images are in DAO format, when you try to do them at TWO which is alot more eniffecient and prone to errors, it wont work on a DAO image

Okay...first post.
I have Nero 6 and Alcohol 120%. I have a bunch of games that I dl'd from suprnova, but now I wasted like 10 cd's on a bunch of game that don't work. Most are.nrg while some are.cdi. Do I NEED Nero 5 or Diskjuggler to burn these games? Do I need to use a certain type of CD. I'm using GQ CD's. Last question, does it matter which version of utupia boot disk I have? I really need help, I can't figure out how to burn any of my games...

From what i have heard, neo 6 sux, get version 5.9.x.x.(x meaning whatever) off of kazza or something, then what you do is with nero you open it up, select "file" and click burn image, then select the "iso"(game") and when the little screen comes up it has 3 tabs at the top(info, misc, and burn) select burn, in there check mark "write, and finalize cd" set burn speed to the lowest possible speed and burn "disc-at-once" then select "write and when the cd stops burning check it on the dc, if it doesnt work the try selecting "track-at-once" it's rare that it will need to burn like this but some games do. If you have cdi there a little tool that converts cdi's to nero "nrg.image" you can get it at
home brew it called "cdi2nero" isf the game loads to the dc menu option screen then it means you probably need a boot disc but if it loads to the audio player then it means you burned it wrong.

Session 01:
Track 01: Mode 2 Form 1, Length: 285218(557.1 MB), Address: 000000
Session 02:
Track 02: Mode 2 Form 1, Length: 000302(604 KB), Address: 296618
How do i burn that? Or make it self boot becuse i know it's not going to work becuase there is no audio track in the firast session, is there a way to switch it around, or something? I've tried ripping game and making them self boot but they come out in that format. not this one which is a working iso:
Session 01:
Track 01: Audio, Length: 000300(600 KB), Address: 000000

Which Dreamcast model are you absolutely certain about that won't allow me to play ISOs?
