I've been interested but it seems like a hit or miss type of game. So until I get a chance to try it out for free I won't decide whether or not to get it.

From what i read so far, it is a nay for me.
So it will Fallout 3 GOTY for me despite me finish playing the game in X360 but didn't finish all the DLCs.

I bought Oblivion but since I'm playing FFXI I have no courage to start a new in another RPG. I'm sure I'll have the same feeling with Fallout 3

(which sucks because its one of those games you have to play).

fallout 3 is well worth checking out - it hardly ever feels like a chore.
I nuked a bunch of people in that game.

I read about the DRM in Borderlands stopping people who bought the game early in stores from playing it before the release date by doing an online check during installation. How far does the DRM in this game go? Does it limit installations etc with bullshit activations and sneaky hidden malware like Spore, Far Cry 2 etc? If so it'll go on my increasing list of games I'll never buy. It's bad enough that you have to be online to install, as my gaming PC is offline.

Oct 30 2009, 11:01 AM
^ I had that SAME problem.
If I buy a game I used to have to go to my fathers to "activate" it walking through the streets with my tower.
I dont get these issues with a cracked game I download only some times the patches can be a pain in the ass.
Spore was a pile of junk!

There's a lot of hype for this game around my dorm, but I think if I bought it I'd never end up playing it even though everyone tells me I should. That's what happened with TF2 for me, at least.

Naw, going to a geek school where only 4 floors out of the two 12-floor dorms are populated by women means not a whole lot of fucking goes on here. Drinking... well, that's another matter.

So what's the deal if you buy a retail copy of Borderlands then? Is there an activation limit? And do you have to be online to play or only to install?
emsley
Oct 31 2009, 05:52 AM
The install went fine for me - i got the RELOADED release so whatever thier crack did it bypasses all that activation stuff.
You buy a game only to have to use a crack - insane.

From what I can tell from friends, it's pretty slow in the beginning, but it picks up after a few levels and quests. I just think that gun randomization thing is pretty cool.

If you want it to look even remotely pretty, a decent pc will do (decent as in 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram, 512MB Video Card) That will get you with everything on low/medium at some high resolution above 1024x768.
And the ending is, off, but it sets itself up for sequel for the story.

One of my friends convinced me to install this game, and now I'm very glad I did. I've had the chance to play a bit of single player and multiplayer, and they're both fun and equally challenging. Multiplayer might be a bit easier if the game stopped boning me on sniper rifles, though...
But yeah. Great game. Mordecai kicks massive amounts of ass. I mean, shooting an Alpha Skag, causing him burst into flame, then shooting him again in the open mouth as he lunges at your face and watching his head turn into bloody chunks is a beautiful thing.

Dude, I played borderlands, and it kicked ass. I am level 47 already, and i think we've had it for about 2 weeks. Granted we play here and there, but shit, I like the leveling up, and the huge range of weapons. Now, what I have noticed, is that when you're a lower level, and you go up to this one area, and kill all the guys out there when you first get the car. You go up into this ramp, through two building, and in the second one there is a gun chest. If you go up there, collect your "loot", exit the game, and do it again, you can keep getting weapons that are like level 25 when you're level 15. They sell for an ass load. This works all throughout the game, too. If you get a chest, exit, and come back, you can get more and more loot.
Oh, and I totally choose Mordecai over the other characters. He's got this badass bird that you can make fly around while on fire, and it catches everyone on fire.
I also really liked the "second wind" aspect. Granted, playing single player makes it a little harder, but the multiplayer is definitely the way to go. Although, when you play mulitplayer online, the people I have played with only seem interested in fighting against each other. Which really sucks. So despite the online multiplayer is only flawed by it's players, I really, really like this game, and recommend it to anyone whose up for a good RPS.

I'm up to this bit were i have to bait a skag out and just shot a load dudes in cars.
I want to review this game when I can.
I lold though when I got this really good vantage point with a sniper rifle - the enemies just go back and forth really quickly on the spot it looks so try hard.
i still made them dead.

Yeah, sniping is pretty easy when you can hit enemies from beyond the range they can detect you from. Silly AI is silly. Of course, with the 4 x exploding sniper I just got with a very high chance of elemental damage and a 3.6 fire rate, My sniper is now also a great close range weapon.

Yeah mooney - I'm level 20 now I only play an hour every other day at the moment i think i need to update my graphic drivers.
Is it me or does it get dark more often than it does light? A mod to mess with the day/night cycle would help because I cant see shit when its dark.
LSD if i had to pick between these two games I would opt for fallout 3 its just so funny.

That's the problem. Too many games released close to each other. I already have Fallout 3 GOTY, and I picked up Oblivion GOTY yesterday. And I am going to pick up GOW Collection this 17th Nov. And i am still playing Tekken 6 and RE5 in the meantime. As you can see, my gaming time is fully occupied
i guess i will definitely try this game out when this game is cheaper and I finished up some of my games. I need more gaming time

Once you've played Fallout and Oblivion for a while, go to tesnexus.com and fallout3nexus.com and check out the zillions of cool mods for them. If you're talking PC. I'm gonna wait for Borderlands to be cheaper too, and also for the new retail version dvd prints that are supposed to be coming without the online activation. I uninstall games when I'm not using them, so in a couple years time if I think, 'Hey, I'd like to play Borderlands again.', I don't want to reinstall and get 'Failed to locate server, unable to activate your game, kiss Randy Pitchford's arse, you can't play the game you bought anymore. Please don't call technical support, we don't wanna talk to you.' Coz we know those activation servers are gonna go down in a year or two.

You mean activation right? Activison didn't have anything to do with this game I don't think. Lol. Yeah if you buy Borderlands on a disc now, you have to pass an online activation check at install which was put there solely to stop people who bought the game early from playing the game before the Steam release date. Aside from the fact that my gaming PC is offline, and it's an inconvenience for me to connect it just to install a game, I know for a fact that in a year or so the activation servers will disappear, so if you try and install after that time, the game will not find the server and will either lock you out, or not let you install. Gearbox might make a way round it if people complain, if they even care about the game in a year's time, but I wouldn't risk it. Luckily though they've said that the next run of dvd prints will only contain a disc check, and not the online activation, so it's likely there'll be good old fashioned cd keys with retail versions bought sometime in the future. They haven't specified when that run of dvds will start though, so I'm gonna give it a considerable amount of time.
