there should be a text file in the xbmc folder which tells you which version you have.

Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 01:03 AM
the box was soft modded
Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 01:07 AM
Yep if I reboot the box, it goes thru the little xbox intro, after that is done it goes to a light greay/blue screen. Just sits there in retard mode.

Oct 26 2009, 01:22 AM

Oct 26 2009, 01:49 AM
So just insert splintercell and reboot the console, I'll give that a shot
Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 02:19 AM
Yes I was able to boot up splintercell, and now im doing a basic install
Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 02:36 AM
Okay so I was able to get back into the back using the Splintercell CD. But when I goto load a basic install, I get and error that says.
Batch process failed.
The last Item was: xml's mislabeled
Action:rename
But i'm able to FTP the box.
What to do next??

Im a little confused as far as FTPing the XBMC folder to my (e:/dashboard) folder. do I just copy the XBMC folder, or do I FTP the contents of the folder right into the E:/dashboard??

I know what youve done. Simple mistake anyone could do it, ive done it a couple of times on different machines and i know what im doing with them tools. Im guessing your softmod has created a shadow C:\ drive using an unleashx engine as the dash. Yes ? Get the xbox to some sort of bootable state. Use a file browser (on the xbox) and browse to e:\.
You should have a dash folder. Put the raw contents of the xbmc build in there. The shadow c:\ drive has a shortcut pointing to an xbe in the e:\dash folder. Try that, any problems post back and i will show you a proper admin trick for that setup if its needed.

That did it, worked like a charm!! Question on upgrading my HD, I folled all the steps and made an Iso File, but when i goto write to CD it's bigger than the CD? 1134MB and all CD's that I can find are only 700MB Did I make my Iso image wrong
cba.gy
Oct 26 2009, 05:46 AM
You havent been very descriptive there so im gonna guess again here. When you made the initial iso im betting theres still a linux.iso in the folder which has now been added to your new iso therefore inflating the size. Or youve made a back up of your current config with extra stuff installed that doesnt come with a clean install.
Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 06:11 AM
Yeah I made a backup of my current configuration. Here is what I did, or what I followed.
1. copy eprom to eprom folder
2. copy C to C (was nothing in my current bax's C drive)
3. copy E to E (this had all my junk in it) 2 emulators and the current XBMC
Did I do that wrong?

No i dont suppose youve done anything wrong. You need to burn that to a dvd dont you.
As far as an install goes build a fresh new one with just eeprom added. Clean installs are always best.
Pop in new hdd, build. Transfer anything you need back. This way you know that everything
is as it should be and avoids headaches further down the road when you launch something
and it starts to play up. Honestly, taking shortcuts always leads to tears in the end. Having to build from scratch
also gives you practice and a deeper understanding of whats going on. To unlock the hidden shadow c:\ partition
in that particular softmod you browse to e:\ again, look for a folder called nt (something). There is a xbe inside, launch that and it boots unleashx but with the shadow c:\ unlocked. This is good for changing fan speeds or changing to HD.

Wow, so all I really need is the Eprom file? I dont need to copy over any other files?
If thats so than sweet! The Iso should be small.
Californiadad
Oct 26 2009, 06:51 AM
I went in and only copied the basics from the C drive and the Eprom as well Cut it down to 375MB (((yeah)))

Oct 26 2009, 07:07 AM
Yes but you must still have some files for the installer to install. Im presuming your softmod comes with the xbox dash and the unleashx dash modded. If so your good to go. I see you copied the c drive files.

Son-Of-A B.....nothing is going to be easy for me. I'm following this step-by-step
http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtmlAnd im going good all the way untill I get to the lockingHD part. I type in the cmd to Lockhd -a, and it tells me abort. checking hd status.
Not letting me lock the hard drive i guess.
here are the specs of my HD
40GB Deskstar
Model# IC35L040AVER07-0
HD firmware ER40A44A
HD Ser# SXPTXPV8366

If you cant lock the hard drive then that drive is a no go for softmods. It is a requirement of the xbox dash, to which the softmod needs the xbox dash to be bootable. You could mess around for ages with online tools that claim to lock certain brands. Trust me ive tried quite a few. Pop the old one back in and when you can afford a new one treat yourself. If you want to get into emulators then probably a 160gb should be the minimum. Im presuming your a, shall we say, not a youngster now, so put your hand in your pocket and get a new one mate !

Man that sucks. I remember looking at an online list of HD's and that one said it was lockable. Guess I'll have to try another one.

I remember I couldn't get anything to lock for my mates xbox before, so frusrated, I just stuck the HDD in the xbox after the locking claimed to have failed, and it worked and HAD locked the drive, so try that.
