The big green button now flashes.
Not working yet but has detected it - said it has installed drivers when I unplugged it and put the controller back in but still nothing, will try a restart.

See if you can find yourself a cheap used 360 controller -- wired. They're quite fantastic. I don't even have a 360, but I use the controller exclusively on my pc.

I even added rumble support to fba specifically for this thing.

It might be cheaper to get a PS2 controller/PS2>USB Adapter.
This pad is pretty badass too, but about the same price as a 360 controller (although it is wireless):

Hell yea the logitec Dpad is superior to the 360 Dpad.
If you don't need analog, go with
This Like I told you in the other thread. I have 2 and they kick ass. If only they had a straight 6 and not that 4... but anyway thy are 8.14 british pounds.

I would second Shibathedog's suggestion of getting a PS2 converter. The Playstation's controller layout can be adapted to just about any game and I've found the converters to be surprisingly reliable. In the past, I tried a wired 360 controller and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The D-pad was terrible, the fact it was one of Microsoft's own product and required an independent driver made no sense and it occasionally would drop input for a split second.
