I don't give a fuck... this show is BADASS. I just finished the 3rd and final season. I am VERY particular when it comes to anime... I usually hate all of it. But this was American made... buuuuut... thats not enough. I also hate American "cartoons" as well. The only shows I really liked from here, was Justice League/Unlimited, Batman, Duck Tales, Hmmmm thats all I can think of. Movies like the Avengers "cartoon" was absolute crap. Bad artwork, bad visualization, bad backgrounds, bad concept, bad everything. American animation is lackluster, and unfortunately, seems to use the same bozoes to make it and/or direct it.
But Avatar... wooow. They set the bar where it needs to be in terms of... well... everything.

QUOTE
Avatar is notable for borrowing extensively from Asian art and mythology to create its fictional universe. The show's character designs are heavily influenced by anime; the show, however, is not considered an "anime" because of its origination in the United States. Explicitly stated influences include Chinese art and history, Japanese anime, Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Yoga. The production staff employs a cultural consultant, Edwin Zane, to review scripts. Traditional East Asian calligraphy styles are used for nearly all the writing in the show. For each instance of calligraphy, an appropriate style is used, ranging from seal script (more archaic) to clerical script. The show employs calligrapher Siu-Leung Lee as a consultant and translator. The choreographed martial art bending moves were profoundly affected by Asian cinema. Western film series such as Star Wars, and literature series such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, were a heavy influence in developing the story of Avatar. In an interview, the creators revealed that they wanted to tell their own epic "legend & love story."
Dude the show is great! And I generally dislike anime... cause they always drop the ball. The show is short and sweet, and gets the job done! They don't draw shit out like everything else does. If you have not seen it, WATCH IT!
BADASS!!! No really, I fucking love this show!

I only like standard american style "funny" cartoons. the only anime that I ever got into was Macross and gundam. but gundam dragged on too long with all the offshoot series.

I finished watching the finale of this show a few months ago. I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in Anime at all.

Well... Although this show is badass in general... It always has me laughing. My favorite Characters are Sakka and Iroh, They always have me rollin' "Ok your cute... but unfortunately for you, four made of meat."

See SEEE? BADASSNESS!
There were so many awesome action scenes. But I totally respect the art style. For instance, Door knockers that are detailed lions heads, chinese style. Awesome portraits in 'Ole Japanese style (firelords palace) I can go on and on, but suffice to say, there is ALOT to appreciate. I wanna restart the whole thing again, and... I just got done watching it. It had inspired me. I swear... It's visualized and drawn by guys who get me. I see shit in there that Id see myself coming up with... or rather just really really diggin' the idea. There is no time I can think of where I was like... meh.

I really wish it was longer, man I tell you, I use to check for updates on torrents and anime sites daily for new episodes. I remember there being a stall somewhere in Season 3, some kind of mishap with writers which delayed the series for about a month or so. There are some really funny moments in the anime, the voice acting is spectacular, the characters are excellent, everything about it was satisfying, the only downside is how long you had to wait for each episode to be released. Then once you watch the new episode, you have to wait longer for the next.

Well I pretty much watched them all during the update here. I saw a few episodes before, which peaked my interests. Like... where the episode where King Bumi, the old earth bender guy "mad geneous", who was Aangs friend before he disappeared. At the end, he was standing Akimbo, and fell backward straight through the ground, then shot out of the rock on the other side with a Dragon Punch right out of the floor... My jaw dropped. The show is filled with moments where it was well... badass. Fighting syles, hell, even dancing! remember when Aang did the rising Phoenis and whatever the other dance was?
Whatever. Yea it's a shame the show is done. They made it short and sweet. But thats ok, because that means the powers that be couldn't get their hands on it and make it into something that it's not.

I saw a few episodes back in season one, I was mighty impressed, but decided to postponed my viewing of it until it finished. Now that it has, I'll go back to it sooner or later .
M.Night is directing it, so I have mixed feelings.

I'm now "buying" all the episodes, when they arrive I will post up my impression of the entire show (although I expect it to not disappoint).

The Avatar doesn't need a live action film.

It will NOT disappoint. The anime that is... that movie... looks like it's going to be "wack"
Really, I'm going to watch them all over again. It has alot of badass moments, alot of laughs too, for me. And alot of artistic awesomeness for me to appreciate. I am actually going to study the show, in all their art decisions. Have fun watching them.

Well respected comment.
I might try to re-watch them, I can do so without having to wait weeks and months between seasons and episodes.

Id list the sites I have been using... but I believe you were one of the guys who told me about some of the places you watch anime. There was a site I used to watch the first 2 seasons... GREAT QUALITY... no artifacting AT ALL!!! But they didn't have the final season. I went to another site, but the artifactig was pretty bad. One episode had major un-definition.
Id watch like... 7-9 episodes in a row. So I watched the show pretty damn quick.
M.Night is directing it, so I have mixed feelings.

LOL M. Night Shamalamadingdong. that dude is like Jack Black... one decent movie and he's a freakin' super star. but disappointment after disappointment and people still hold them in high regard. I don't get it. I suppose this Avatar movie will have one of M. Night's patented "I seen it coming a mile away" surprise twist endings. "OMG, He's a ghost!" "OMG, the town is in modern times New Jersey!!1"

LoL. I dislike shalalalalahahn, and despise Jack Black. Everyone thinks he's so funny. He tries too hard, and it's annoying. I was watching the extras on Kung Fu Panda, and he was being an idiot... and all the other voice actors were jizzing all over him... "he's so funny!" bah.

Jack Black hasn't made me laugh since the old Tenacious D stuff. And I'd be willing to bet the other guy wrote most of the material.
Shamalamadingdong hasn't made a decent movie since the 6th sense.
anyways I am derailing your topic...

Well on M. Night... He does have a sense of... I dont know... mysticism. But his movies, like the village... wtf. Hell butcher this.
Looking at the cast. WTF... I like them using new people and all, but... All 'n all... failure They need to switch a couple of actors roles around... lol And replace others. Really... some of the actors/actresses gotta go. This movie will likely be just alittle bit better than DB. Which by the way I have NOT seen and refuse to do so.
that trailer looks good, but the problem with that is the trailers for the village, the happening, unbreakable, Lady in the Water, and Signs looked good too, but in the end.... Burned.
M. Night can make a good trailer. thats for sure. other directors should just hire him for their trailers.

I have very low anticipations for this movie. Might I add that his air bending looks like steam or smoke, rather than just pure wind.
The trailer looks decent, but I want the movie to completely impress me, I'm a little disgruntled about what happened to Dragon Ball, then again that's an anime, The Avatar is a western series, not to mention two different people are directing both movies.

Yea the trailer looks good, after it pans out. That kid looks weird... I hope he works out. Aang is a fun loving free spirit. Laughing and playing and being silly... Until he has to own somebody. This kid looks disturbed.
As all movies adapted from other sources... I am concerned about how well the characters are going to be portrayed and the interactions as well. Im holding my qualms about Uncle Iroh, I think that guy just might be able to pull it off... but he doesn't really fit the bill ya know. Iroh is suppost to be stocky. Prince Zuku looks like he should be playing Sakka and the guy playing Sakka needs to be fired. Your fired... Katara doesnt look right, but there are only a few pics of her. In fact... nobody looks the part... at all. Even Aang. But that is just from pics... I got an entire year to wait.
Shaylahan or whatever... I dont even care to look him up to make sure it's spelled right... has never done an adaptation. So... perhaps he can get this right as there is already a set world and story. His movies majorly flopped.
Oh... yes the "air" looked more like steam or smoke... I was wondering how one might do wind visually. Although I know you need to put something there... what he did in the trailer looked... wrong.

More than anything I was wondering how they were going to do Appa, I would imagine computer animation. Also, if they mess up Sokka they mess up the movie. Sokka is one hilarious chap, he needs to have the right actior who will match his personality.
Wind is pretty much invisible, but I guess visually, steam fits the bill, otherwise it would look awkward, it looks like a Dragon Ball blast that would be invisible.
Um... WHAY THE FUCK... Didn't they use Dante Basco!!!! Dev Patel is a goofy looking kid! Sure Zuko is 16... but Dante has a young look... Fuck. The cast is so WRONG! Aang, that lil kid looks disturbed. I don't see him acting like Aang at all, much less any cast member in the movie.
It has a bunch of "Filler" episodes though... Main reason I dislike western cartoons is because episodes don't always follow "a" plot or advance "the" plot to begin with.
O well, wonder how the movie adaptation will turn out. Gotta say though, Aang pulls of a Naruto more then Naruto does lol.
He has a higher chance of pulling it off sufficiently than the average mid 20 year old actor.

Just saw the entire show.
Gotta say, for a Western cartoon, I'm kinda impressed. Although at the end I got kind of scared they would throw mixed messages all around the board, it turned out alright.
Plus all the subtleties are amazing, seriously the entire basis of the show is something extremely hard to pull off. But because of this I feel now that the movies will fail, seriously casting a generic cast will just make it stomp, although the argument can be thrown both ways, I still say it's just lame how everyone in the movie will just be thinking about the outer layer of the story.

Well I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yea it makes me hopeful for Western animation. This is what we need, folks that study awesomeness and go from there. The show had so many influences. Japanese culture, hinduism, taoism... etc. Done quite well and balanced too.
