For what reason? Its opensource too. Other than maybe "too fast progress", there isnt really anything.

Were you thinking of the x264, xvid and faac cases in particular, robert?

If they could, they would have already done it by now.

The problem is they can't because Dolphin is 100% open source, coded by Ector, F1RES, and programmers around the world.

That is why emulators are legal and commercial roms are not.

Emulators that do not bypass encryptions, drm, etc. are legal. Unless the hardware that the emulator is... erm... emulating is obsolete, then iirc, there's an exception to the dcmca.

This is all US though. Not terribly applicable to other places.

It's not like Nintendo hasn't attacked emulators that emulate its hardware in the past. The issue to them really isn't whether the emulator is open source or not. But yeah, they probably would have done something by now.
