I'm curious if there is any way to map the 'add coin' and 'start' buttons to a controller in MAME, like Kawaks allows you to do.

I'm really lazy and hate having to lean forward to press keyboard buttons to continue! LOL!

Yes.

Just map them like you would map any key on your controller in MAME.
