Full Version: How would I convert an .img file to .cdi?

Yes, I'm having problems running a DreamCast image that is in .img in NullDC because NullDC only accepts .cdi files. How would I convert an .img file to .cdi? unsure.gif
Agozer
Correction, it accepts CDI, MDS, NRG, and GDI images.

An easier method would be to convert the IMG to NRG using ISOpen, or some other converter program.
garyoak99
Thanks! I'll definitely use it to convert the files then. smile.gif
garyoak99
Okay, I just got ISOPEN but when I click on the .img file and click on .img conversion; nothing happens! What do I need to do in ISOPEN to convert it to CDI, MDS, NRG, or GDI images? unsure.gif
Agozer
The first entry in the Conversion menu should be a general one. Try that.

No, that would be the .bin conversion. There is the Universal Converter option but when I select the .img file with that option; it just says "Selected file is not a valid ISO." What do I do now? unsure.gif

Well, as a last resort, you could mount the IMG (or the CUE, if the game has additional tracks/data that needs to be specified) to a virtual drive and rip the game into an NRG image through that.

Unless that is, you want to hunt down another converter and cross your fingers.

I have written it into a temporary .nrg file on my desktop during the copying process in Nero but then it disappears as soon as I abort the process when it asks me to insert a blank DVD to complete the copying process. Would this mean I would need to burn it to a DVD? unsure.gif
Agozer
I don't know what settings you use, but my Nero lets me just make the disc image file from the source drive by using its "Image Recorder" drive as the destination. Not forced burning after the creation of the disc image is complete.

---> One .NRG Nero image ready for use.

Which version of Nero do you use? unsure.gif
Agozer
I think mine is the OEM version of Nero 6.

Woah! I thought my old Nero 7 was old! The scary part is that I just replaced my old Nero 7 to Nero 8 so there are probably even more differences between our respective Nero software.

There is so much software bundled into Nero now that I get lost just looking in the Nero 8 folder: NeroBackItUp, Nero Burning ROM, Nero CoverDesigner, Nero Express, Nero Home, Nero MediaHome, Nero PhotoSnap, Nero PhotoSnap Viewer, Nero Recode, Nero ShowTime, Nero SoundTrax, Nero StartSmart, Nero Vision, and Nero WaveEditor.

Which piece of Nero software do you use to get to your "Image Recorder?" unsure.gif
Agozer
I would upgrade mine, but for some reason, the OEM refuses to completely remove itself from my system, effectively screwing up the subsequent installation of the newer Nero software.

Not that I mind, the OEM works well enough and it's not like there aren't lots of alternatives. I use DeepBurner and CDBurnerXP mainly.
Inky
my friend Google says magiciso will convert .img to .iso.

he knows lots of stuff like that.
Agozer
The only problem is that nullDC refuses to recognize ISO images.
Inky
thats pretty retarded since .iso is pretty much the standard for disc images.....

When you install Nero you get to choose which of these apps you want and which you don't. Personally I just use Express/Recode and that's all I need. If you want to convert any image to cdi then it's best to use DiscJuggler.

I used this tool in the past to purge Nero installations before upgrading. IMO either 6 or 7.10 are the most reliable versions anyway, even if they do lack the newer features.
Inky
have you tried mounting and ripping the files in alcohol 120?
I seem to remember it having .nrg and .mds as ripping options. it might not support .img for mounting though...
garyoak99
The funny thing is that I took a second look at MagicIso and I discovered the Make CD image option; it allows converting files to .nrg files!

I converted it successfully and I can get NullDC to successfully boot up the image but now it won't let me get past the set date and time step...but that is another problem probably better suited for a new topic. I will check back here if you have answers for this new problem though.

Thanks!

Thanks for that. I'll give it a look.
