Any way to download the divx codecs for the nxe dash?If your banned from live?
My friend let me attach my 360 HD to his 360 which isn't banned.I put in a thumb drive with a divx film on it and it prompted us to update the video codecs.
We connected his 360 to the net with my hdd attached and updated the codecs.
Then i put my hdd back onto my 360 and tried to play the divx film and it still asks me for a codec update.
I presumed the codec update would have been installed on my hdd not my friends 360.
Is there any other way to get the codecs?

from what I was able to gather there is no way, you'll have to use transcode360 or tversity to transcode on the fly from your PC.

The codec is tied to your gamertag but also to the console it was downloaded to. There is no solution as yet. I had exactly the same problem when I bought my 2nd 360 and had to make a silver account just to get the codecs to work.

Hey SF2MJ this is the update the added the Divx codecs in the first place.
I havent tried it myself as mine is already updated and running but try updating your 360 with this and hopefully it will add the divx codecs back. Let me knw how it goes

I have heard that divx is still supported on media like flash cards and dvds.
some have said that only streaming is broken. but I dunno.

well that shoots that idea down. have you tried running tversity or transcode 360 on your PC?

I tried playing from my external HDD via USB and from DVD while I was using the NXE preview when the codec update was broken, and it just kept asking for me to update.

I have never used any of those programs before.I wouldn't even know how to use them.

No this isnt the whole nxe dash again.
It is the old 2007 update that gave you the divx codecs in the first place.
So it should just add the codecs back.

You can't overwrite the NXE with an older dash. It is apparently possible with a chip and some soldering skills but it's hardly worth the bother.

If you just press the central navigation button it's like a mini version of the blades anyway. I prefer the newer look, though it still takes me exactly the same amount of time to do the stuff that I did with the old dash.

Unfortunately the codec update isn't included, it's still only available from Live. Something to do with the DivX license fees.
