I know some of you go by different names here and already know about this, but I figured I'd share here as well. Tons of work put into this so far and hoping for more help as I keep up on it. Let's work together and get the Box doing all that it was meant to do when it was born..... punk.gif

http://img29.picoodle.com/img/img29/3/10/5...y5m_3587863.jpg

All the details are there. If you have any questions or would like to help, I'd prefer if you posted there. I haven't been here for a few months at least, so I might not get to you right away if you post in this thread. Either way it's cool. Everything's eventual. I'll get to you either way.

hey thx for the heads up. i really havent looked into video previews for the emus on xbox yet
ressurectionx
No problem... thumbsup.gif

I didn't know anything about it until NES added it to his ZSNESXBox about 3 months ago. Now I have about 3,000 vids so far and they're great. (Got tons just waiting for an emu release that supports them) And the "dual preview" emus and skins that are starting to come out are great. So far, we have video previews on SNES, Turbo Grafx 16, NES and Atari LYNX. Lots of exciting work going on now and a lot of help needed. Check out the link for more info.

great job with this. i love having a clean romset with only one version of each game.
mtsaint
besides those systems listed does neogenesis support vid previews to?
i visited the usual places and noticed alot of the emulators had new versions out.
ressurectionx
Thanks dr99. Me too. Happy to share it with everyone. It's impossible to find a good XBox set where all the names are under 43 characters. Hope it saves you a lot of time so you can do other things instead of spending all your time doing this.

Enjoy....

There's not a neogenesis with vid support yet. It's coming though. check out the XPORT section in the other forum.

Hey everybody. We've completed the NES Xtras (well... the videos and artwork and datfiles anyways....)

We've still got to get the manuals and a few other Xtras out there too.

Check out THIS THREAD for updates.

You can also find links to download over 1,170 videos and artwork for more NES games than you would ever imagine having on your box. They're all organized in detail, making it almost an adventure spotting hidden gems among all of the games brought to us from around the world.

All Xtras for games that are original and in english are included. Tons of translations and update hacks included as well, along with prototypes, unlicensed, pirated and other Xtras.

There is also a project going on where we're compiling a synopsis of each game that will be viewable by pressing down the Right joystick. Any help anyone can offer on that is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the Xtras..... hope to see you give back to the community,

~Rx

EDIT: Who's a guy gotta pimp slap to get his warning over 10% in this biatch?
ressurectionx
Genesis, 32x and Sega CD artwork and videos released. Check them out. Got a full Xtras set of NES, SNES, Genesis, LYNX, Coleco and others and soon to be much more.

Gilles has some badass skins available now too that you'll be able to use in their full capacity in the near future when the NES public beta comes out.

Take a look in the XPORT section of the forum and say hi to madmab and Gilles9999 for their tireless efforts of balancing work, family, friends and their devotion to the project. Say hi to Mega_Man_(?) and Horscht too and thank them for the thousands of videos they've made for all of us above and beyond the most complete contribution to emulation Xtras that is emumovies.com. If you use the Xtras, I implore you to check out that site and contribute to their cause. They've truly saved thousands of hours of their lives collectively to bring this to everyone, free of charge, with no more satisfaction out of it than being a part of something that they feel very passionate about.

From the very simplest arcade rom from the mid seventies in MAME, to the very greatest release the XBOX 1 has ever seen, this is a museum that many people will want to have today, and many years from now.

It's the beginning of the perfect emulation experience.

Sure.... the kids would have to find HD images and make HD videos of all the games for their 200" TVs, but what we got now is a hell of a start.

Keep an eye out for a public release of the newest mendafenx_nes. Dual Previews. Dynamic Skins. 100% of every video and artwork for every rom included in the datfiles. (Don't ask where to find roms, because they're not available with this collection)

And, of course, thanks to XPORT and NES and all of the coders that I don't know their names back to Nesticle's day.

Enjoy,
~Rx

P.S. Good to see BP still kicking ass on MAME.
ressurectionx
Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy Advance Torrent-zipped datfiles for over 2,300 games released on the thread now. Also more than 7,000 images in over 2,300 files released in the artwork pack. Pretty much plug-n-play if you know your way around the XBox.

Over 1,700 videos made for it, with 600 more needed before a video release is available.

Enjoy, and let me know if you want to help.

Later,
~Rx

Anybody know if BP added "allowance mode" or got some help getting video previews on MAME yet? I've got 4 DVDs worth of AVI files ready to be converted for support for his emus.

I'm posting it here because I don't want to clutter his thread if he already does and this is the only thread I'll remember checking next time I get back.

PS... check out the new developments on the Xtras at the other site. We could use help making Gameboy, TG16, and SMS/Game Gear videos if you have some free time.

Thanks,
~Rx

I've got a lot of plans for this stuff in the future. When I came to the scene, there was so much still unorganized. So many things to go through. Probably millions of moves and renames and re-orgainzations have gone into this project to get everything to match up with the datfile romnames. I want to eventually put out there what has never been created before. A single torrent that has all of this stuff combined. One that allows the user to get only the things they are looking for from it.

We're not there yet, but the time will come.

In the mean time, megaupload is a good a place as any, and more often than not it's faster than a torrent, even though it involves a more hands on approach. Check out the vids. Not all the emulators in their current release can support them yet, but NES, SNES, Genesis and LYNX are a great start.

Enjoy,
~Rx
Gilou9999
Hey ressX, I knew i will find you here thumbsup.gif

I post it here because the F###ing xbox-scene forum is dead tonight -AGAIN- devil.gif

Just to say:If we want the ability to display dual boxart/screenshot (for now we can display dual boxart/videos, but for the users without a big hard drive it would be cool)
We need an Xport inverter!!
All the best emus of the world (mame, Zsnexbox...) and all the pc front ends are working with "boxart", "titles", and "screenshots" folders; unfortunatelly it's not the case of the Xport emus sad.gif .

Perheaps a coder out there could create a programm to convert all our "Xport screenshots" into "classic multi folders screenshots"

A programm that could convert:
Mario/0001.png, 0002.png, 003.png, 0004.png INTO
Boxarts/mario.png , Titles/mario.png ,Screenshots/mario.png , Carts/mario.png

Like this it would be SOOOOO MOOORE EASY :
- For the USERS, to display any screeenshots/boxarts/carts/titles in the desired order.
- For the CODER, to display what he want in the General User Interface

I don't know if such a wonderfull programm should be hard to create madmab? Peheaps a talented coder here know how to programm such a thing?

Imagine how cool it would be for the poor xbox users with their tiny hard drive to have this:

ressurectionx
Hey Gilles,

Yeah. I post in here too every once in a while.

That forum has been dead for over a day now. It's too bad because it's been having no problems lately. I wonder what's up because it's totally dead now. Usually when this happens it's just really slow and times out requests a lot.

Oh well... hope it's back up again soon.

When it's back up again, ask (or I will) BombBloke if he can use some of his code wizardry to convert the pics to separate folders. In the Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy advance I did my first complete overhaul to the screenshots to verify that every boxart was labeled 0001.png, every title shot is 0002.png, every action shot is 0003.png, and every cart/cd/disk is 0004.png. We may have to drop the alternate boxes/carts/screenshots for roms with more than one game on them, but we'll get to that at some other time. Maybe we could have multiple screenshots or boxart in their respective folders if there are alternates. (I'd have to do that manually, but it shouldn't be too bad).

Do you think mad will be able to do this if the pics were in different folders? I'm surprised it can't be done if the pics are all named correctly, but if doing all this extra work is what it takes to get it done I can spend some time on it and hopefully BB can make that conversion program for us.

BB has made two awesome codes so far. One of them has saved me hours now. It takes all of the PNG boxart files i have and renames them to 0001.png and puts them in folders with the exact name I gave the images before the convert. The other, which I haven't tried out yet, takes all the roms you have in a specified folder and makes cutfiles for them so you can load the rom straight from XBMC. I'm sure he could come up with something.

WTF is up with x-s anyway thats been since yesterday its been down?
Gilou9999
Yep, totally dead since yesterday...

I copy paste it here the answer of madmab, He think the same thing of us; The Xport screenshots convention is... giving us lot of problems in fact! eyebrow.gif

Madmab think too

Like it works in mame/zsnexbox/pc frontends; would be SOOOOO MOOORE EASY :
- For the USERS, to display any screeenshots/boxarts/carts/titles in the desired order.
- For the CODER, to display what he want in the General User Interface

Madmab answer about a programm every xbox Xport's emulators users could use:

I think I wrote a batch file to do this some time back. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find it. It had issues with directories with certain characters in their name (& comes to mind). But still makes for a good timesaver. I think two directories (one for screenshots and the other for boxart/cartart) ought to work just fine.
ressurectionx
Geez.... I wake up and the site is still down hard. That's almost 2 days now. Wonder if it's time to start worrying that all our posts are gone. At least I have the links for everything uploaded saved in about 3 other places if the worst case scenario rises.

If the site ever goes back online, I'm going to ask BombBloke about separating each type of screenshot. As long as we're going to the trouble to do this, we may as well do it right. Since I named everything perfectly, it shouldn't take much extra effort once the batch is written. His program that I mentioned above works lightning fast with all characters including the &.

cba.gy
Sleep kills, just like onions give you cancer.
dballs
well i hope you get some sleep cause all your work is mad appreciated and we need you to stay healthy and alive! such ridiculously huge, grueling, repetitive, probably boring tasks that make everybody's emulation life better smile.gif THANKS!

currently im trying to get everything in place. (got nes, snes, and genius vids working smile.gif)

quick question do the synopsis work yet? in which emulator? how? i put some in mednafenx's emu's cause i read they would work in those and couldn't get them to work.
ressurectionx
Thanks Dballs,

Yeah. Tons of work here man. So many mind numbingly repetitive tasks for probably over 10,000 individual roms now.

It really is a ridiculous project, and I'm just very grateful to have had all the help I've gotten so far.

Let's just say that I have more than my share of beer to get me through it all. cool.gif

The cool thing now though is that I've found a very real interest in updating the artwork packs to have GREAT quality boxart. I've collected a lot of artwork from HD sources such as thecoverproject and HyperSpin and with my own collection I've compared the quality of each of these alternate sets to my own and replaced each game with the best boxart available. I'm actually really enjoying then going through the remaning boxarts and touching them up by hand to bring them up to speed. The big offenders so far are LYNX and 2600, which still had tons of really shabby looking boxart. I think the personal touch-ups look great.

Plus we've now got Gilles' Generic Boxarts for about 10-12 systems which fill in all the blanks so all games will have boxart representation.

Lots of new stuff coming out around late February or March. Can't wait to share it all.

Later,
~Rx
cba.gy
Did you think it would be such a large task when you started out, or did it progressively grow from emulator to emulator.
ressurectionx
Hell no I didn't. If I knew I'd still be doing this at 30 when I first bought that Box from my brother when I just turned 27 I would have thrown that Box into the abyss before ever modding it. It eats up such a large portion of my life now.

That's a really good question though man. I'm surprised nobody ever asked me that before.

Actually, it was a very small project at first. I figured I'd just do title shots for all of the games for NES, SNES & Genesis. I was just testing all the games I could, making a title shot if they worked and deleting the game if it didn't. There was no documentation and no plans at all to do anything public at that time. Somewhere along the line I decided I wanted boxart and action shots as well, and possibly carts when I could find them.

It wasn't until NES got video previews working on the ZSNESXBox that I decided that I had to have them and Horscht, a few others and I worked together testing and making videos for that system.

Gilles and Madmab came up with the synopsis idea and that project has just gotten out of control from there. I'm able to crank them out so much quicker than we originally were doing and it's a great way for me to verify that I have all the roms in the correct categories along the way.

Can't remember when I decided to do the other systems, but somewhere along the line I decided that I would do this job until every console emulator supported by XPORT would have full Xtras and synopsis.

Thanks to you and all of the others who have in the past and currently are helping make that dream come true, and are constantly working to improve all aspects as we go along.
cba.gy
It is such a large task, yet very satisfying too i presume.
The end pay off has got to be user grattitude surely.

I wasnt convinced of the ResXtras at first as i thought about space needed
and serious performance issues. Yet im now a convert. There are no performance issues.

The extra artwork seems to compliment the whole package. Gilou/Gilles skin (very polished)
seems to be the glue between MadMab's changes to the Xport emulator's and the ResXtras packs.

I have read some of your stuff and see you intend on upgrading some of the packs after xmas / new year
to HQ stuff. Isnt this a drag as youve been down that road once before (collecting initially).
ressurectionx
It is very gratifying actually. Until recently, I've kept this to myself as far as friends and family for years except for my brother. We had a poker game a few weeks ago though and my old supervisor was blown away by what I showed him and said he'd have to get me a couple of hundred bucks for one. I told him that I plan on giving one to my friends when I'm done and for 5 years he'd been a great boss and friend to me and he doesn't know it but he's on that list. Wish he was still the Sup.... too many things are changing too quickly.

It's just cool seeing somebody's reaction to this outside of my own. I've been living with these changes as they've happened and it doesn't have as big an effect on me one minuscule bit at a time as it would if somebody popped this stuff off on me all at once.

It's kind of a bummer when I have to re-do things like I'm re-doing the Boxart now, but once I've resigned myself to doing it and I start seeing how much more amazing the changes look to what we had before I think it's totally worth it.

Really, with a good set like HyperSpin it's not so bad. Also MM?, pCe and others have taken it upon themselves to collect, crop and convert many of thecoverproject's images so they're just as easy to work with. I'd say, all in all, with a boxart set of around 800 images, it only takes me about 10 hours to integrate them into the set. I do thourough checks between this new artwork and my own collection before adding each individual picture to assure the highest quality all around. (If you're going to do it, do it right.... right?)

The big time waster is touching up boxart myself. (It's really kind of therapeutic though). I'm not a graphic artist by any means, but I have to admit that I'm very pleased with the work I've done on my front with this. Somebody may say they can do better though and I welcome it. I'm never opposed to adding higher quality artwork than what we already have and that includes anything I've worked on on my own. It's just cool going through the Atari 2600 boxart now and not seeing a beat up box every 8 images, or ones with stickers on them.

Thanks for upgrading the videos for Genesis Cbagy. Those were definately the worst batch in the entire set at the moment and your videos are some top notch additions that I'm proud to make a part of the Xtras. They really look great on the bigscreen TV.

Thanks of course to everyone who has helped. There are so many names that I can't keep them all straight now, but that's what the spreadsheets are for.

Also, in the end if I forget anyone I implore you to call me out either in my thread or in a PM letting me know that you did something and you didn't get credit for it.

Sure... I want my friends to be blown away by this work since they've been wondering just what the hell I've been obsessing over the last 3 or 4 years (the last year and a half especially), and I really want them to think that it's something great. As far as internet glory.... yeah, it would be kind of cool seeing "RessurectionXtras" become a hit and even make the leap to other platforms one day, but in the end I love my anonymity far more than any kudos for this project beyond my own personal real life loved ones.

I really mean it when I say "we're OCD so you don't have to be". Like Monk said.... it's a blessing and a curse... and a blessing..... and a curse..... and a blessing.....

I hope the first OCD guy or gal who stumbles upon our work when this is completed uses it, loves it, and moves on. I'm sure there are much more valuable things that somebody with a mind like mine could be doing with their time. The way I figure it is if 100 OCD people were to acquire and use these sets in the end, I've just freed up 400 or 500 years of peoples lives that would be better spent.

Here's hoping that they're good guys and working on fixing the world and not dark hearts that the world would have been better off if they were busy working on this themselves alone for the next 20 years.

Thanks for being interested Cbagy.

Ain't it funny how we were beating each other up about 5 weeks ago and we're buds now?

Think that's a new record....

Got the US Gameboy synopsis done in under 24 hours. That's nearly 550 roms.
ressurectionx
Gameboy synopsis, testing and artwork and videos about 98% complete.

Gameboy Color testing and artwork about 90% complete, while the synopsis is finished through the letter R. We need about 50 more videos.

All that's left is Gameboy Advance. I'm going to work on testing, artwork and synopsis.

Is anyone interested in making some of the missing videos?

I'd like to get the Gameboy Xtras out in Feb or March with the huge Xtras update.

Thanks,
~Rx

EDIT: There's about 200 or 300 Gameboy Advance videos that still need to be made.

Good question and good point.

I think the team has some deciding to do before this all comes out. It's amazing to me that I might actually be done with my end first. I've really stepped up production on my end.

Unfortunately, I know very little about coding. Probably not enough even to help madmab out. Sure wish we had somebody around with the skills to help him out. I know he's a lot more busy than I am.

HUUUUUUUUGEEEEEEEE and hopefully final (for real) release for all XPORT console based systems planned for somewhere around March 15th.

I have finished the GB/GBC/GBA synopsis as well. Still some tweaking and testing to do, but over 2,500 unique entries right now weighing in at over 2MB!

Last of the major synopsis files to make is now complete. Videos/Artwork complete for most systems now, although I am still upgrading the sets with the help of others.

I also touched up over 300 boxarts for the Atari 2600, NES, Atari Lynx and Atari 7800. No more stickers or beat up boxes. No more signatures on boxes, or other handwritten crap. I've tried to make all of the boxes that I couldn't find good images for look as close to the original artwork to be printed on the boxes as possible. I'm no graphic artist, so I'm sure it could have been done better, but the ones I've fixed look infinitely better than anything I could find online.

I'll update my progress here from time to time as well as my own burrough.

As always ANY HELP IS WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

Wow man, this will be a massive contribution for the scene. Cheers mate!

I really can't wait till March, my xbox will become better yet again! I am gonna add all the art and vids maybe some new skins (likklebaer skins are my fave so far.) Man the quest for xbox perfection could go on forever! With your help a quantum leap will be made! OH BOY !!!!

will the resxtras include stuff for mame such as vids, pics, synopsis etc or are you sticking with the home entertainment systems?

I had a quick look but didn't see much MAME related except that coinops link...
