Full Version: My Legal Emulation Website

I know I probably shouldn't be posting my website right after I just registered, so I apologize if any conflicts arise.

I just started my own emulation and gaming website after becoming fond of the emulation scene and being quite active throughout various emulation communities. :Update: We moved to another host a few months back in may and everything is going quite nicely

We are still quite young, not a lot of content or a lot of members registered participating in discussions. I strive to keep my community as user friendly as possible discouraging flame baiting/flamewars and making improvements when I can to my website. We just started getting a lot more traffic and registrations when I decided to host compiles of Dolphin SVN Revisions.

It's a 100% legal community meaning we don't allow any illegal copyrighted materials to be posted or linked to. The forum software is the latest version of Mybb, I still haven't decided what to use as a main page. I plan on upgrading to vbulletin quite soon to leave Mybb behind since vbulletin seems to offer more features and options out of the box.

In case anyone is interested or wants to check us out I have provided a link below.

Looks good, let us know when the site is up.

The website/forum is already up, just not the main page yet. So instead of the url being just xtemu.com it is xtemu.com/forum. tongue.gif

Ah yes, I remember the ruckus at Plot's place over this...
JKKDARK
Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your website.

It was over a former super mod/member allegedly promoting my website and slandering General Emulation which I had nothing to do with.

It's nice to see some familiar faces/members here and/or avatars. biggrin.gif

Wow, it's been that long since I originally posted this. tongue.gif

Sorry for grave digging this old thread, just wanted to update with some additional info.

I am hosting the newest compiles of Dolphin SVN revision which ector gave permission on among other downloads. We are doing quite a bit better now than before, getting some new members.

The portal page is linked in my signature, which should have a link to the forum. I have just updated the forum software to Mybb 1.4 and am working on finding updated plugins to restore the former features of the forum we had before the upgrade.

If you have a related/unrelated website and are interested in an affiliation to help boost traffic and benefit both websites, please send me a PM.

I just want to ask one thing, are we allowed to promote/link to our website here? I've seen a few threads closed, not sure if this is allowed.

I take it as long as my site conforms to the rules of the forum, I am safe with posting it.
Robert
Promotion of competing forums is generally frowned upon by GameCop,
however I'll leave it to him to decide this case.

If you call a blank white page a forum.....sure.

Once I can check the place out, I can comment lol

Hmm, must be on your side as everything works fine here. I don't see why this would be closed, I would of thought if it was somehow frowned upon it would of been closed over six months ago. tongue.gif

My forum can't really be considered competition as of now, we aren't even that big. But the relevance of the main community topic is a bit similar.

XTREME!!!!!!!

Do I know you? Sorry if I forgot, but your name is unfamiliar. Would you happen to go by another name on the other forums? smile.gif
Autobahn
Oh no, I was just yelling XTREME!!! because of your user name like in this scene from Harold and Kumar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO2Abp0FbA0
GameCop
I am surprised that people use the word "Xtreme" instead of "Extreme". People have been doing it for ages. In fact, I remember that there was "ExEmu" (Extreme Emulation). Reminds me of ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) and then XPW (Xtreme Pro Wrestling).

Anyway, just an analogy, no disrepect. smile.gif

Yea dude it's not just cinder I get the same blank page.
JKKDARK
This guy is too extreme to damage ohmy.gif

I'll look into it a bit, by any chance would your ISP's happen to block any websites? Try seeing if it can be accessed through a proxy.

It should load fine, since it does for me and others. I just want to make sure the problem isn't on my websites end.

I had someone else on another forum say the same thing a while ago, I thought they were joking because no one else was having a problem.

Thanks for reporting it, I'll see if I can figure out what is wrong.

@Gamecop, I chose the username "Xtreme2damax" back in 2005 when I first signed up at emuforums because I originally thought the name was original only the find out the alias had already been used on other websites. At least I am the only one who has used the alias at more overall websites/forums than the other person who was also using this alias.
Robert
White page here also.

But if I jump from the portal directly to a topic, it works.
In fact, all pages work - except for the forum index.

The cut-down version of the index works though
http://www.xtemu.com/forum/archive/index.php

In case you're interested, here the source of the index page:
CODE
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>

As you can see, not much there.
Xtreme2damax
I upgraded to the latest release for the forum software I am using, check and see if you are still having a problem.
Robert
Works now. smile.gif
ken_cinder
Working, and I see 0 cause for "Oh noes! Illegal Stuffs!"

But you might want to set some permissions on your downloads section (I too run PHPBB3) as guests can download. Should be an incentive to sign up, seeing as you're offering up SVN compiles of Dolphin.
Xtreme2damax
Yeah I set it up so guests could download. I wanted to give unrestricted access to things like downloads and give guests the option to register, I didn't want to force registration on anyone.

I am trying to find members within the emulation communities who are interested in posting news and moderating specific sections, not much luck so far although I haven't asked many people.
Xtreme2damax
A question for those who were getting a white page on my index:

Would you happen to be using the Opera browser?

I haven't had no issues under Firefox or Internet Explorer, but I just tried to load my index under opera and got the dreaded blank white page.

Any feedback or input on this is very valuable and appreciated. smile.gif

I narrowed it down a bit, seems to be occurring for anyone who isn't registered or logged in.
Xtreme2damax
I apologize for yet another post, I just wanted to mention that the issue with the blank white page on the index should be solved now.

Apparently it was the fault of a bad plugin which has now been disabled. I would appreciate for anyone to report if they are still experiencing this issue.
ken_cinder
Nope, still works here. Firefox 2.0.0.16. Was fine after you updated PHPBB.
Robert
same as Cinder, using IE6 here.
Xtreme2damax
We have just made the conversion from Mybb 1.4.x to IPB 2.3.6. I am working on getting the settings restored and proper permissions set. All users who are registered have been sent an email informing them they'll have to reset their password in order to be able to successfully login.

Also during the conversion I wasn't able to keep avatar uploads in tact nor poll votes. If anyone is registered there, you'll need to re-upload your avatar.
