Okay i need a Good Neo Geo Emulator But there's one thing i don't know how to make it work. I got Roms and everything but i don't know what to do . If u can help me that will be greatly Appreciated
Agozer
What you need to know about any given emulator is usually explained in the accompanying Readme file or manual. Develoers do not write these documents just for filler, you know.

As far as emulators are concerned, you can choose between MAME, Kawaks, Nebula or FBA.

To make a brutally simple generalization:

1. You get an emulator, extract it to a folder of your choice
2. Put your romsets and the Neo-Geo BIOS in the roms folder
3. Start the emulator, click Load Game
4. Click Rescan roms/audit romsets (so that the emulator scans its roms folder for available games).
5. Double-click a game you want to load
6. Set your keys

I don't understand the readme so i asked for help here. I have Roms (metal slug and what is rom sets . Where do i pit the bios and so forth.
Agozer
It really can't get much easier from what I've already explained. You also haven't specified what emulator you are trying to use.

Furthermore, if you cannot understand what the manuals are saying, then it just might be that emulation is too big of an undertaking for you at this point in time.

Agozer speaks truth.

No it does not need to be zipped. Just have it named neogeo.zip, and put it in the same folder as all your roms. Your emulator will do the rest, no matter which one you are using.

Just make sure you find the option in the emulator to choose which folder has all your roms in it. Once you have set that up, if the bios is there with the roms, everything will work perfectly.

So...I put the Neo geo Bios into the rom folder right? and it should work? Well it ain't working, i had the Emulator Find the Right Rom Directoriy and it still won't find Metal slug?...sigh...Please help me... ALso i have always wondered is it possible to emulate the Naomi system? Cause i really Like Marvel Versus Capcom + My brother broke my DREAMCAST!!! I cried alot that day...Well need some help plz!
iq_132
you downloaded a file called neogeo.zip and a file called mslug.zip, right? Put those files directly into the rom folder (don't unzip them).

Then on the nebula window, click "Emulation" -> "Load Rom"

On the right side of that screen, make sure the box next to "neogeo" is checked

Right below that is a button that says "rescan roms" click it and metal slug should show up. smile.gif

As for naomi, no it's not emulated yet. The dreamcast is, but you need a pretty fast pc to play those games well and they take a long time to download.
GodPigeon
=\ I dont use Nebula. And for Marvel vs Capcom, you can just download NullDC and the Game itself to play it. Or the PSX version, but that one isnt true crossover so i wouldnt play that one.

EDIT:didnt see iq's post while posting this
Robert
Couple of other things to check.

Open Nebula.

Click on Emulation, Rom Directories...

You get a box that tells Nebula where your roms are. Make sure the first one says "roms" (without the double-quotes). Click on Close.

Make sure your folders are set up something like this:

C:\Nebula\Nebula.exe
C:\Nebula\roms\neogeo.zip
C:\Nebula\roms\mslug.zip

Any more roms that you get, leave them zipped and in the Roms folder, just like the ones above.

Then, do what iq_132 said.

The only reason it won't show up after all that, would be because your mslug.zip hasn't got the right files. If you make sure you have one suitable for MAME, then it will work in Nebula as well.

Hope that works for you. smile.gif
BlackKnight
Yes, as Robert said if you have a set for NeoRageX, it won't work in MAME, Nebula or Kawaks. Get the MAME set.
olaf
8 years old? They sure do start young these days... I didn't get into the scene until I was about 12 or 13. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside seeing younger generations get into this stuff. smile.gif

COntinue? and i say yes and then they just show a blue screen....Is there like a program i can use to check if the roms have full files? or no?

Also If ur wondering I'm 8 and i don't mind talking to you ...as long it doesn't include come to my house and I'll make some chocolate cake for you! rofl

No, it's "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, but when life gives you oranges, you make grape juice, just sit back and let the people wonder how you did it."

What you want are called rom managers. However, these can potentially be confusing to use, so I won't be recommending those to you just yet. What they do is basically compare your romsets to a DAT file that contains information about known romsets (size, name, length, CRC, etc.) and based on the comparison, can tell you if your romset is corrupt, missing files, wrong sized files, etc. etc. DAT files exist for almost every emulated system and its roms.

Does Nebula say what files are missing and what it is expecting?

You likely have old sets- rom sets change as MAME is updated.

You can use ClrMAMEPro or RomCenter to compare your sets with the correct sets for a given emulator.

neo geo rom file not found
000.lo.lo file not found
Stfx.sfx not found
WARNING some files are missing or different
Continue?

ANd that is what it says.
BlackKnight
Those files are bios files meant to be in the neogeo.zip.

As for the missing or different, the sets might be outdated.

Either way we can't tell you where to get the proper roms unfortunately. You'll have to find them on your own.
Robert
I think Nebula will say the name of the first file it found to be missing and stop right there. Why it then gives the option of continuing is mysterious.

Anyway as the others said, you MUST get MAME-compatible rom sets. Old ones, or ones for other emulators, is no use. If you found them in the Neogeo section of some rom site, they are very likely to be wrong.

No you dont.

Only the official MAME build is command-line only. There are virtually dozens of MAME builds with GUIs, the most popular being MAME32 and MAME32 Plus!.

And yes, as someone pointed out earlier, the files you are missing are part of the Neo-Geo BIOS for MAME.

Okay i got it to work on Kawaks. But there's One thing...How do i make it run smoothly and no lagging?(what settings?)
