Hello, im new to the forums.

I recently got the latest version of WInkawaks (version 1.56) and got the roms for metal slug 1,2,x,3,4 and 5. The problem is that 3,4 and 5 dont show on the list. I have downloaded the neo geo bios, but they still dont work.

I also downloaded RomCentre, but have no idea on how to make it work, it just doesnt display and games even thou i downloaded the Winkawaks data file for it.

Please tell me if you know how to make both of these work, thanks. smile.gif

What files are inside the Neogeo.zip archive? Also, make sure that Neogeo.zip is in the roms folder. For the record, Kawaks uses MAME sets.

These files:

000-lo.lo
asia-s3.rom
sfix.sfx
sm1.sm1
sp-e.sp1
sp-j2.rom
sp-s.sp1
sp-s2.sp1
sp1.jipan.1024
usa_2slt.bin
vs-bios.rom

And i got all the metal slug roms from ********** (sorry if its illegal to post links, im new here as i said)

Thanks.

Seeing that Metal Slug 1 and 2 are showing, it can't be a neogeo.zip problem.

I'm guessing, therefore, that you don't have the correct roms for those games. Can't help you with Romcenter, never used it.

I must have the bad roms then. as the CRC32 of my files dont match with the ones you provided (that is, if what you provided ARE CRC32 codes).

Edit: Hmm, maybe i need some sort of hack to play these games? i found something called a loader hack, but doesnt work with the latest version of the winkawaks.
Agozer
No, you don't need a hack, since kawaks 1.56 support all released sets to my knowledge.

You need an older version of Kawaks and Kawaks Loader if you want to the sets working you have now, but it takes more work and it isn't a guaranteeed success either. So yeah, get the "official" sets somewhere.

Also, read the board rules.

Ok i'v managed to get them to work, iv taken a look at the board rules too.

I have another question now, i dont know if it belongs in this section, but it is about a neo geo game. Which dip switch does what, i cant seem to find it anywhere on the web.
Agozer
Depends on the game. Experiment. Some DIPs do nothing.

Why using Winkawaks when you can use NeoRage and save the time.

Cause he wants to use kawaks . Just because you may like NRX does not mean everyone else has to use it .

Such an old hacked up emu anyway .

NRX bah!
NRX - Tremendous piece of crap -- closed source, old, and hacked to crap.
Kawaks - full of nasty emulation hacks and is closed source.
Nebula - a lot better, but still closed source
MAME - sloooowwwwwwwww, but open source and easy to compile + dev
FBA - Faaaaassssttt (faster than kawaks, lighter weight, supports more systems, emulates games better), is open source
Agozer
Haha, looks like everyone is defending their favorite emulator with teeth and claws.

Why is Mame slow ? nearly all games run at full speed here Just a few CHD's run slow

Compared to the other Emulators, yes. It uses more resource than a lot of other emulators.

There is no other emu that plays that many game as mame does .
If you have a slow PC then yes Mame will be slow . Other emu's use hacks just to get the game running at full speed .
To me true emulation is getting the game close to original as possible .
Mame emulates the hardware as well the game which does explain why it may use more resources .
