Well here is possibly the last version of Win2DS. Finally has the the new WiFi features (WEP and DHCP all that), so you won't need to have all your WFC data fully filled out, or manually connect each time, or turn off WEP to keep the government from stealing your packets. There was a bit of a delay because I tried to add TCP support, but it is a pain in my ass and slow anyway. I will give this release a little time for bug reports and such, then I will probably release the source, because I think I'm done with this project.
Enjoy!
Win2DS v0.5aChangelog:
---------
v0.5a:
-Fixed screen corruption on M3.
-Tweaked the way the keyboard works for hopefully more compatibility.
v0.5:
-Complete overhaul of the GUI. Now makes full use of the touchscreen and has a Windows-like interface.
-Uses the new WiFi 0.3 lib. WEP, DHCP, automatic settings, and all that fun stuff should work now.
-Added GamePad Mode.
-Maybe some other stuff I don't know it's been a while!

If you are talking about the screenshots, they can get corrupted if you have a poor connection. Other than that, I dunno.

Don't really have a specific one in mind, but I do have some other projects I am thinking about. Maybe not one for the DS, but maybe so.
Thanks for the positive replies, usually when I click on these release threads I gets scared someone is gonna tell me I screwed something up

Works well here, I like the new interface. Just two suggestions:
* Make the wifi light flashing optional
* Allow server IP to be changed using only the d-pad.

I have a slight problem with this..I never bothered to try these until WEP support came out because I'm paranoid the government is stealing my packets and using them against me.
Anywho, I have the "hang at waiting" problem, I know my IP settings are 100% correct but what I find odd is there is nowhere for me to put my wep key in? Is this right, or am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks in advance, and yeah, I read and followed the manual config before posting here.

You are correct in that there is nowhere to put WEP settings in my program. The manual connection settings are really only still there because I put them in previous version and as such as such decided there was no reason to take them out, just in case anyone still wanted to use them. However, previous versions didn't have WEP, so there in no place to put that in.
What you should really do is put in your WFC settings using an online-enabled Nintendo game, and enter your WEP settings there. You can also put most things on Auto, as there is really no reason to manually enter all the information any more. Then you can just choose 'Auto Connect' and everything will automatically connect with ease.

Ok, so no port forwarding, or anything like that? I have port 8888 UDP forwarded on my wireless router, and DS2Key is working perfectly, but 0.4 and 0.5 are just hanging at the waiting screen. Arrgh, frustration!
**Edit - Yeah, I got it working, not sure what I did different. Oh well, I won't change anythinganymore....runs a lil bit slow doesn't it? Are there any settings I can change to alter the compression or anything else?
**Re-Edit - Is there any way to save server settings on my DS? I'm using a Supercard CF with the 1.62 Firmware and a 1GB CF card.
Sintax
May 7 2006, 05:47 AM
You shouldn't need to forward any ports unless you are trying to use it over the internet. Some people say it runs slow, and I don't know what to tell you, I can get it to update at almost 10 fps on the highest speed (although I'm sitting right next to the computer). You may have a firewall or something causing problems, it still sounds like your connection is shaky.
No way to save settings! If you use WFC data, the server IP is the only thing you should need to re-enter, barring custom keys maybe.

May 7 2006, 06:05 AM
No better with no firewall....I have a NAT with firewall, but I've allowed port 8888 UDP connections to go through it. I'll play around with some settings and let you know what I find.
**Edit - Still no good, I'm looking at a 2 - 3 second delay between pushing B and having the zoomed view move. Can anyone think of anything that would be giving me this? I also noticed that the mouse doesn't go where I'm touching on the screen... I use the small view to get in the general area of what I want to do, then switch to Zoomed view to be a bit more precise, but the mouse seems wayyy off when its in zoomed view!
**Re-Edit - After a bit of playing around, I have also found out that if I'm more than 5m away from the pc, there is n ocommunication between the routeer and DS. I'll try Pointy Remote and see if I have the same results with that.
....Yeah. Pointy Remote sucks.

Wow, never heard of some of those problems before. I hope you know you can change the speed of the screen updates in the menu by pressing start (really just sounds like you have a bad connection though). Other than that, custom mouse cursors are known to be about 10 pixels off, but no one's ever told me about it being way off.

Hi there.
First, I want to say that this is an excellent program, one which I use all the time (I like to be able to keep tabs on on what's going on with the computer from various other places in the house). I kept the WEP off for a while so I could use it, until this new implementation which works very well.
One thing I had hoped would be changed in this version, however, wasn't, and so I figured I'd ask if it would be possible for the next version, if there is one.
While it's great to be able to easily focus on any part of the screen, enlarging it to the top screen, it can be hard to get the mouse into exactly the right position. Basically I run into being able to clearly see the button I want to click, but it's so small on the lower screen that it's hard to tap just the right spot. I know you can switch screens with the shoulder buttons, so that the enlarged view is on the bottom, but as far as I can tell, that doesn't change anything for the mouse...if the zoomed section is in the corner of the desktop and I try to click something in the middle of it, the mouse goes to the middle of the actual desktop. Couldn't it be made to work so that when the screen is switched, the mouse is also locked into that area, so that it would be easier to select whatever you wanted?
Oh, and lastly, the on-screen keyboard doesn't work in all programs for me (specifically it doesn't work with GAIM). Do you know why?
Otherwise this really is an incredible program, thanks for making it!

May 9 2006, 02:58 AM
FireFlyII: The zoomed view should make the mouse go where it is shown on the zoomed view (not in the middle of the desktop like you said). I took a quick look at the code and didn't see anything wrong, so I suppose it it a bug, I'm not sure why. Dunno why the keyboard doesn't work, I suppose it is the way Windows and some programs handle keystrokes.
New version that is fixed for the M3 is up!
edit- Changed the keyboard too, try it now.

yay the corruption is fixed. but still cant connect to router. im using 128-bit wep..will that work with win2ds?
EDIT: i got it to connect a few times, but it mostly doesnt want to work. i have a feeling its cycling through the different conenction profile (i have 3 different ones) and it take time for it to fail on one and move to another. the connection ive been testing it on is profile #1...can you make it possible to specify which profile to use instead of waiting for it to time out?

One other thing, if possible: Since now connecting through external networks, would it be possible to have the option of putting in dynamic hostnames rather than simply IPs? I know my home IP continually changes but I run a dynamic dns on it. Would make it a lot easier.
Just a thought.

I have read and followed the troubleshooting guide. I have opened UDP port 8888 to my WinXP system. I have set the WFC settings on my DS. I have a Passkey with the M3 adapter. Unfortunately all I get is the Win2DS "loading" progress bar then both screens go blank. Any recommendations would be sincerely appreciated!

Another wifi homebrew application wich doesn't work to me :-(
All I can to get is (after of to introduce no password):
"Waiting..."
I can't understand it, because all settings is correct: IP server, IP DS, gateway, DNSs, WFC data correct (with WEP) used by Mario Kart game... repeat: All correct in original game play.
But homebrew wifi don't work, in fact, it has never worked...
I'm very frustrated :-(
_. -. _. -._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-. _. -. _
Edit: Yeah! It already works! :-D
The problem was that the damn Windows XP firewall was activated (surely by my antivirus software).
Thanks Sintax for this interesting program :-)

Sintax,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I'm at the end of my semester. Anyhow, yes, the keyboard works now, thank you very much! The zoomed view still doesn't seem right though. As far as I can tell, when I zoom in and switch the screens, the mouse is confined to the bottom right corner of the full screen, in roughly the size of the captured area, it just isn't actually the same as the zoomed area, so the only way I've found to get the mouse in just the right spot is to zoom, switch screens, and then change to "relative mode" for mouse movement and drag the cursor where I want it...
Still a terrific program though...and did I hear that it can work over the internet now? Doesn't have to be on the same router?
(oh, and if it helps any, I'm using the GBAMP)
Thanks again!

I'll use my first post on this forum as request:
- please make the option to change ports, so that 2 DSses can connect
- I've tested out a lot emulators, but the gamepad mode only seems to work in Snes9x. Please do something about this ^^;
Further, I must say you've made a great program! With just these ^ two things, the program would be completed.

I have an excellent Wireless connection before anyone asks, and when Win2DS is running, it run really well.
However there are two issues I am encountering.
It is really a lottery whether I can connect successfully or not.
I may get the "cannot connect" message, then try again, and successfully connect. Or May connect straightaway, but have the program freeze at the password checking screen.
A more urgent issue is that the top screens graphics are corrupted. I can only see patches of the screen, whilst the rest is just black.
Other than that, the mouse and command refresh is much faster, making it more pleasant to use.
One thing I think might be more helpful in increasing accuracy, is have a shortcut to allow the mouse to automatically highlight important screen objects such as the start menu, or the close button on windows through a cycle. Thus making it easier to just left click objects, instead of trying to accurately make sure the pointe is in the right place.

Win2DS starts perfectly here, when I connect to my PC, the PC sees the Nintendo DS, but the program doesn't do anything.
So my program for my wireless connection sees the Nintendo DS, but the program on the computer of Win2DS is doing as if there is nothing happening?
My Nintendo DS says in the screen "Connection Status": waiting...
And it's busy for like 5 minutes now.

PointyRemote worked good, so there is nothing wrong with the connection.
--- Edit:
Working perfectly now! Automatic worked, manual not.

Hi Sintax, thanks for all your efforts on this great program.
Is it possible the slow update problems some people report (where updates arrive very slowly ~1fps, and there is significant lag between pressing a button on the ds and the screen being updated) is related to the latency between their wireless router and their DS?
My older router adds about 30ms of latency to any wireless transaction. While programs like VNC work very well, Win2DS seems to struggle. Is it possible you could tune some of the programs parameters so that it is more robust in the face of large latencies? This would also make the program much more useful when used over the internet.
Thanks again.

i just have one word: wow. i tried your program about a half a year ago, and i wasn't THAT impressed. but now it's much better. the inclusion of a virtual gamepad was genius, and leaves ds2key in the dust. seriously, i had given up all hope of using the ds as a virtual gamepad due to the HORRIBLE lag in ds2key. but this is so seamless it makes me want to cry *sniff sniff*.

I'm running a DS phat with a Slot 1 R4.
I setup my Wifi connection for games such as Mario Kart and this works perfectly. I have only recently been able to get some homebrew working such as one IRC client and DShobro.
For Win2DS I have opened the UDP port and everything should be ready to go.
Auto connect: Using the WFC settings it reaches Acquiring DHCP before I can even enter my PC's ip
Manual connect: I can use manual connect and without even changing any settings, select my AP and it will reach the ip entry. After this it hangs at Waiting...
All firewalls and such are down and as far as I know there should be nothing blocking it. Either way I am unable to connect, as with many people posting here I would love to get this working and greatly appreciate any help.
Also I am using v0.7 unofficial.

im really stuck, my ds is configured to my WiFi Connector but when i press auto connect it always says cannotconnect, im only connecting through my Connector because thats the only AP that my DS can connect to.
