Here is the first release of Win2DS, it's got virtual mouse and keyboard support, and it shows a constantly-updating screenshot of your desktop on your DS. It will eventually do many more remote operations, but it works solidly for what it is now.

Win2DS v0.1a

Changelog:
---------

v0.1a:
-Fixed problem with screenshots updating and worked around another (screenshots should never stop updating now).
-Fixed potential lock-up with password checking.
GrupstraNDS
having troubles conncting to my AP. I config the IP's, select my AP, but it asks for a password (there is none), so i leave it blank. then it stays at the waiting screen, and doesnt go any further.

I've succesffully connected to it with the other apps, and clients like this.

EDIT: fixed it, it was a problem on my end. user error, as always.
Sintax
Graraggh, the password is for the Win2DS server. Make sure you run it first, it helps.
GrupstraNDS
yeah, I was confused. I had run the server, but in my daze of entering passwords for WEP keys and such in other programs in Xp today, I got confused. sorry. wink.gif
GrupstraNDS
After using it for a bit, I msu say, it's a step up from the other app in presentation alone. I miss hte zoom feature from pointyremote, however, this is still quite nice.
Alucardd
I dont know what it is, but it stays at the waiting screen. It says associated and then i enter the password, but then it just stays at the waiting screen.
jas20
Nice app, better colors, doesn't lag my laptop. Better keyboard but the lack of zoom is sad (I didn't get that working in the other app very well anyway).

Jas20
GrupstraNDS
Yeah, I must say, if there were zoom, It'd be excellent. Because now I still need to see my monitor ro get whats going on. with zoom I'd be able to stray away from my monitor, zoom into a convo or window and still know whats going on, and such. This just gives or a basic idea of it all. I cranked my resolution to 800x600 and I can now sort of read chat convos and some page text if its lighter pages. Darker ones, like this make the text unreadable.

But looking good, nonetheless!

Hmm. The screen isn't refreshing for me on the DS.
Keyboard is a little messed up too.
Pressed Caps Lock and had it press enter. tongue.gif

Edit: Reconnected and the screen refreshes fine now.
GrupstraNDS
I've found that sometimes, it stops refreshing the screen too. I think it may just stop if I'm doing a lot very quickly, and it just stops trying to keep up. But then again, there's probably a more techincal reason behind it. I'm just noticing that it tends to stop refreshing when I begin doing a lot very quickly. as you stated, d/c and then reconnecting fixes it.

The keyboard is a bit too touchy, sometimes I hit one key, and it does the one below it, and hittin backspace to delete a character does nothing. I've tried re-calibrating my touchscreen in case it may be a bit off, but theres still some obvious sensitivity problems with it, the same as I've noticed in DSlinux's virtual keyboard.

COMPLAINTS COMPLAINTS COMPLAINTS

The screen refreshing thing is a bug, but I had a hard time reproducing it. Reconnecting fixes it. The zoom will be added later. The keyboard works great compared to other apps I'm sure, you should have seen how it works before I modified it. Backspace works on some apps, some with enter. I'll add support for all those special keys later.

If it is stuck at the waiting screen READ THE DAMN README
GrupstraNDS
Hey, sorry if it sounds like we (or me) are only complaining.

I'm very happy with the program, just offering feedback and such.
RobM
i am posting from my ds!
A LOT better from the other one, just add zoom and it will be a lot nicer wink.gif

[edit] stoped refreshing after i posted this, had to reconnect
Warlord698
keyboard could use a little more work, seeing how it is taking a while to to type this. arrow keys need to do arrow keys and not m,p,h, and k. a zoom function would be wonderful.and having the image not do the whole screen would help for moving the mouse around the edges. but most of all, having it save settings is what needs to be done first. thats all I can think of now, and great work on the program.
Alucardd
well i finally got it working. only complaint I have is just like the others, add zoom and the keyboard could use some work. Other than that, great job.
mastertop101
I got to change my ip adress to use it(but I can't use internet anymore..!)
RobM
Noobs should be banned from the homebrew community. sad.gif (Not you Sintax)
GameCop
Great job on this wonderful app Sintax. Don't let the complaints get to you, everyone is just surprised by how far these new apps are taking the DS homebrew scene by storm and the human mind just wants more and more. Keep up the great work, we have also posted this on 1Emulation news. You've done a wonderful job. thumbsup.gif

P.S. Check your PM. smile.gif
Unessential
Neat, sounds great and i'll definitely try it after my exams. keep up the good work.

I do generally have paranoia over homebrew programs that seem to have great potential for security breaches and damage done though.
Warlord698
sorry if it sounded like I was bitching, I was just addressing so things that could be done in the long run. It's looks great, and fun to work with, already messed with people while we usin computer, they thought is was breaking on them.

but still, Great program

I agree.

Great job Sintax!
chatterbug89
Just wanted to say that i'm extremealy impressed. Can't wait to see how this turns out in the future. It's just so cool being able to access my main computer from my DS smile.gif However...I can only view my primary screen..not both my screens...but...oh well (either way, to fit both screens on the one screen on the DS..would make it super small angry.gif)
Sintax
New version up with some bugfixes.
Zeep
I'm trying to run it, but it's stuck on the waiting screen. YES i've read the readme. I am 100% sure all my settings are correct, because i used the same settings that work on all my other programs.

Hi, same here! I can't get past the waiting screen, and the server says it cannot bind to the port (wich is free), I don't even get the firewall popup as normally. Is there some library file missing on the distribution?

I was just myself starting to work on a thing like this, but I guess there is already many people working on it now...

Just one idea: why not try to load and save the settings to the CF using the simple readconfig and writeconfig that are in my WiFi transfer program?

You can find the source code on the website http://bafio.drunkencoders.org

It's far from perfect, but allows to avoid entering the detail each time... Plus it could be kind of a standard until we get the settings from the lib smile.gif

it was ranging on the waitng screen for me too, then i remebered i have WEP enabled on my router, and thius app does not support WEP, dunno if this aplys for you though

i really think this should have WEP support like the others

edit: man this is really neat, anyway you should make it so whatever whe are scrolling on the botton screen is zoomed in on the upper screen also auto refreshing, but then i guess it woud be to damn slow, just a thought though
MaHe
Sorry, but I HAVE to complain.

This damn keyboard is so friggin' messed up I can't even press a number. I press 9 and it outputs SHIFT. WHAT THE HELL?!

Nr. 1 - 5 simply won't work.

So I can't really even (can't enter the damn IP) try out this although promising application. Sorry.

BTW, yes, I have calibrated my touchscreen at least three times, okay?
dafatkid27
Same problem here MaHe, I remember reading somewhere on gbadev.org that there are two types of touch screens for DSs that use different coding (or something). I don't know if they've figured it out yet, but it is quite annoying. Anyway you could fix this Sintax? Just constructive criticism, but great app Sintax!

I cant use the keyboard either. Numbers 1-5 are very messed up.

I can seldom press 1, 2 is easy to press, 3 is complicated, and the rest are kinda easy.

If this could get fixed, along with being able to 'fuse' this app with DS2Key...

This would be the greatest app evah!

Heres my suggestion (for future releases)

Up, down, left and right, to be used as up, down left and right. (I want to play Unreal Tourney 2k4, sick, I know, Its just for bragging purposes.

Being able to customize L and R buttons for our 'personal use' (Shoot, jump, etc tongue.gif)

Oh and zoom in.

First fix the keyboard I guess tongue.gif

but you know, this program wasn't based for games. give a little longer and DS2key might use touch screen for mouse controle. This is based off VNC flat out remoting to a computer.

tu2cool
amazing app, i tried thid since i couldnt get the other pointyremote program to work, i agree that it needs a zoom function but other than that its amzing
mat
Hey,
Just had to post and tell you how great this app is. Alright, its not perfect right now, but congratulations man, this really is amazing.

If you just add an automatically zoomed in top screen that follows the mouse around, it would be actually perfectly easy to use your pc from it!

I've been playing around turning the screen refresh reate off, and using it as a tablet mouse thing, absaloutly great!

greyfox123
writting from my ds biggrin.gif great app if there was zoom and a bigger keyboard this would be pvrfect
Zeep
Mine still won't pass the Waiting screen.
greyfox123
okays here what i had to do. for the first ip adress change it so its like 192.168.0.111, for the gateway make it what ever the gate way of ur computer is mine is 192.168.0.1 for the dns put in 192.168.1.1
and for the server ip put in the ip adress of ur computer, u can find most of this information by going to the start bar and going to run, type in command, then when the command prompt window comes up type in ipconfig and all ur information is right there
ChesireCat564
do this to magnify the screen:

ON UR WINDOWS XP COMPUTER (im not sure if it works for any other Windows version):

1. Goto Start
2. Goto accessories
3. Goto accessibillity
4. Choose "Magnifier"

You can drag this application to wherever on the screen you want it to go... and you can set the level of magnification... i have mine set to 4...

this works GREAT for me... and it makes Win2DS WAY better then PointyRemote

*jake*
RobM
Both versions work fine for me. smile.gif Good job!
GrupstraNDS
Well, the magnifyer does help some, but on darker pages like this, the text needs to be highlighted to be readable. But defiantly is better with teh magnify app open. Why not just use the onscreen keyboard then? tongue.gif

Hmm.. any help on getting the thing to work on a mixed wired/wireless network?
Warlord698

A_M
Hmm the screen just stays on waiting. I don't have any encryption on and I'm pretty sure I have all the info correct.

Any help would be much appreciated because I want to get this (probably) amazing app to work
Wizard
You guys made 4chan

Zeep
That's PointyRemote. Different app.
mrNinya
Wow, really wonderful application. Can't wait to see where it'll end up.

Now if only you could stream audio from the PC with the DS. wink.gif
