If one would have to schoose, I'd choose streaming music. PC are more than capable of doing the rest. handheld gaming devices weren't meant to be equivalents of a PC anyway.

I'd say, webbrowser, I'd love to be able to surf on the go, the DS is like made for websurfing, the psp does only a so-so job at it.

I love the idea of an IRC client, but my main choice is a web browser. I'd love to be able to surf while I'm out and about. Since I don't own a laptop, the DS would be the next best thing for me. Even if the first browser is text only, it's a step in the right direction.

Laptops are kind of big, the battery life sucks, so ya they are portable, but not long enough for my liking. I can put a ds in my pocket and carry it around the house. Would be great if I could do web surfing and im sitting on the couch.

Ya, I think some sort of voip would be cool, team speak for the ds. If only they could make a web cam option pack or something, then you could have video chat lol.
This is a bit off topic, but a shocking option pack would make some fun games. With the mic you could hear them scream and not have to be in the same room.

(the version of vnc i have hosts a java applet client under http on like port 2777 or somthing like that.)

Virtual Network Computing. It allows you to do remote computing.

Basically it's a remote-control tool, same idea as Carbon Copy, pcAnywhere, Remotely-Possible, and a whole pile of others. The good thing is that VNC is free. You start up VNCViewer, enter the IP address of the remote computer (and password if applicable), then you see the other computer's desktop. When you move the mouse it moves on the remote computer as well. When you type, the letters appear on the remote computer. It's just like you are there.

Well, I guess that since Nintendo is making so many ausome games that are coming out soon, people want apps that they can't get from Nintnedo!

Depends on your definition I suppose, my fault for misunderstanding the post topic.
Dunno about leaving development to the 'masters' though...the DS is about the right size that a 2-3 man team could make decent games.

But now without a laptop it's even better! You're walking around, and all of a sudden a beep from your pocket. People think its a cell phone / pda / pager making the noice, then astonished that it's a DS! You load up Mario Kart / Tony Hawk / Animal Crossing / Metroid Prime and start playing.

You could have it search for any ds sending off ANY wireless signal. Like ds download play, pictochat, etc. You quickly glance around and spot him. "Hey wanna play?", "Sure."

I for one would like to see a Calendar-app.
Support for reading and saving a local copy of ICS-files.
Maybe publishing locally saved data over WebDAV as well in a later version.
I think Mozilla Sunbird or something in that style.
The iPod have support for reading these kind of calendars on a limited display size to get an idea
And of course utilizing dual screens makes it even easier to present data.
For myself this would be great app as I don't have a PDA, but would very much like a calendar/event/task management helper.

I was thinking I'd make an application for the NDS that controlled Winamp. Most likely I'd use the Winamp telnet server and just use the DS to send commands to it over a home network. I think it sounds neat, whaddya you guys think?
This way I could sit on my bed and change the songs/movies on my desktop without having to VNC with my laptop that is on the floor next to me.
God I'm lazy.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same about
VLC.
It too have a built-in telnet-controll client with more =)
Aaah, it's going to be a good day when this library is out.
And tomorrow is my last day of finals, so I can finally start playing with fun stuff like this again.

Thats what pebbles PC does. it's intended for PDA's but the protocal seems very simple and the pebbles team were nice enough to give me the headers that contained all the constants! I'm gonna have that done about a day after the lib comes out...

I think the coolest would be, for me anyway, an IM client; of course it would have to be compatible with MSN! I could walk around the house chatting to me mates, and that would be good. My laptop is portable, but nowhere near as portable as my DS! And I think that the DS is perfectly capable of such an application.

Possible, but there is 1) a difference in programming language (but this can be overcome), 2) all kind of VB libraries that have to be housed in the DS (like winsock) which are not compatible, 3) the ds lacks the necessary speed/ram to run extensive VB-programs. Basic is fun, but C is much faster.
